Summary Responsible for assessing, developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for Surgical Services Personnel to maintain competency, continuing education, and leadership development. Use problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members. Assess the environment to determine educational needs of Surgical Services personnel. Collaborating with department leaders plan and provide department education. Provide educational resources for personnel. Act as a clinical resource for personnel using evidence-based standards and professional guidelines. Assist personnel in the evaluation of current practice through quality and process improvement measures. Facilitate and monitor personnel compliance with organizational policies and procedures, annual training, and regulatory and accreditation standards. Mentor team members as required, provide preceptor training and feedback. Assist personnel by assessing their individual learning needs and styles and provide accommodations as needed. Maintain employee educational data and records training as required. Facilitate on-site training for new equipment assuring that such training is made available to all personnel who will be working with the equipment. Provide annual review of low volume high risk procedures. Develop an individualized departmental orientation plan based upon the learner's experience, follow the new employee's progress with the plan including intermittent progress reports from the primary preceptor. Facilitate and assign on-line learning for both new employees and annual review for all employees. Facilitate and plan EMR training if applicable. Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects. Participate in the performance appraisal process. Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members. Assumes personal responsibility for completing facility annual educational requirements and required competencies. Demonstrates knowledge of and practices strict infection prevention interventions appropriate to surgical services. Pursue professional growth and participate in professional organizations. Carries out duties in a safe manner and use safety devices provided to protect self and others. Reports safety hazards as appropriate. Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information. Fit-Testing is required upon hire and annually thereafter. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; currently licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Minnesota. Advanced computer skills, including (Word, Excel, Power Point). 5 years of varied surgical services experience. Experience presenting educational programs Preferred: Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification and/or Certified Perianesthesia Nurse (CPAN). Certified Excellian Trainer
