The manager provides oversight, guidance, advocacy, and support to the Classroom Team to improve the accessibility and usability of existing and emerging digital experiences and technologies, research new technologies and classroom designs, and test them within two technology-exhibition classrooms.

Essential Job Functions

Reporting to the Director of Customer Engagement & Support, the Classroom Manager supervises all day-to-day operations and activities regarding classroom and learning spaces technology, video conferencing, and hybrid education systems. This position will assist with the installation and programming of equipment along with troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining instructional technology hardware, software, systems, and peripherals.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Meet regularly with faculty, staff, and students to discuss classroom technologies' current operability and potential while maintaining an open and inclusive presence
  • Work with vendors to procure, repair, maintain, and test equipment and systems.
  • Provide faculty, staff, and students with training, technical support, and documentation on using instructional technology, video conferencing, and hybrid configurations.
  • Perform or arrange for the repair of classroom technology and assist in coordinating a preventative maintenance program for all classroom technology equipment and systems. Ensure equipment and firmware meet current technical needs and coordinate classroom technology upgrades and maintenance.
  • Assist with planning, designing, installing, programming, and supporting new instructional technology equipment and systems.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and supervision for all activities and staff within the Classrooms Team. Supervise and evaluate full-time employee performance and enable improvement by providing coaching, feedback, motivation, and disciplinary action. Supervise the daily operational activities of student employees. Monitor and approve work schedules, leave, and time-tracking.
  • Monitor and respond to service requests and ensure their timely resolution, providing direct assistance to users when required. Maintain departmental documentation, including building and maintaining the knowledgebase and classroom technology inventory.
  • Assist UIT in the development and implementation of campus technology plans and strategic plans. Regularly report on activities, cost, budget, and supervisory work.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and supporting campus audio/visual and sound reinforcement needs for special events, including (but not limited to) commencement, conferences, meetings, and presentations.
  • Create and revise documentation for procedures, work processes, and staff position descriptions.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide updates regarding audio/visual technology, hybrid education, classroom technology, and UIT. Serve on University committees.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Audio-Visual or Computer Science field of study, or 5 years of technology support-related experience.
  • Experience and familiarity with the use of control systems, such as Crestron.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Basic networking experience.
  • Experience with the operation and setup of hybrid classrooms, video conferencing, streaming solutions, and other A/V systems.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3 years of related experience in A/V equipment and software troubleshooting, including a combination of A/V equipment and network systems wiring, installation, and repair.
  • Experience with system programming and space configuration.
  • Project management experience.
  • AV (Crestron and/or CTS) certifications or IT industry (ITIL) certifications.


Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$69,000+ / year; exempt; benefited; full-time

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday; some hours outside of normal business day as needed
