Description & Details:
The department of Plant Pathology at the North Dakota State University (NDSU) is seeking a highly motivated individual with a proven track record of productivity for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the postharvest pathology research in sugarbeet. We study multiple pathogens of sugarbeet causing storage diseases responsible for sugar loss in the storage and in the factory. The position is currently available for a year and is extendable for additional years based on availability of funding and project performance.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work on sugarbeet storage diseases with emphasis on microbial ecology, soil and plant microbiomes and plant-pathogen interactions to characterize plant pathogens and identify novel disease management tools. T he postdoctoral research associate will gain experience in using advanced molecular tools including long read Oxford Nanopore sequencing and bioinformatics skills for the microbiome data analysis. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for conducting experiments, data collection, writing manuscripts, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with the Safety Office.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph. D in Plant Pathology, genetics, microbiology, or a related field. Must have hands on experiences with molecular biology techniques such as RNA/DNA extraction, RNA/DNA purification, Next-Generation Sequencing etc. A strong background in bioinformatics including with the analysis of NGS data would be preferable. Also, working experience in the greenhouse and laboratory settings is desired.

Preferred Qualifications:
Working experience with plant pathogens, molecular technologies, and Next-Generation Sequence data analysis is desirable.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities :
Must be able to work in the laboratory to conduct experiments and work under greenhouse conditions. Scientific communication skills of writing manuscripts for scientific publication are expected. Must be able to work in team environment.
