Position Information:

Department

The Center for Rural Health (CRH) at the University of North Dakota is seeking experienced and talented applicants to serve as the Web Writer for the Rural Health Information Hub, a federally-funded web-based information center dealing with rural health issues. The position will write profiles of rural programs to be included in the online Rural Health Models and Innovations. Includes identifying potential models and collaborating with program contacts. Assist with dissemination and promotion of the Rural Health Models and Innovations and individual project examples through social media and other channels.

Description

The Web Writer will collaborate with RHIhub program management to plan and develop articles for the Rural Monitor. Will research assigned topics, develop leads and sources, and conduct interviews. Will write feature articles, short articles focused on specific programs, and interviews with rural experts; revise articles based on editorial feedback; work with program management, graphic designer, and web team to plan layout and visual and multimedia elements. Will develop and implement outreach for articles, in collaboration with the outreach specialist. In addition, the position will occasionally write content for other sections of the Rural Health Information Hub website, as well as help other staff with copy editing.

May consider work location other than Grand Forks, North Dakota, if advantageous to the activities of the grant program.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Writes profiles of rural programs to be included on the Rural Health Information Hub (RHIhub) website.
  • Plans, writes and edits content for the Rural Monitor.
  • Conducts other research, writes, edits, and collaborates as assigned.
  • Participates in professional activities that contribute to the advancement of the profession and status of the Rural Health Information Hub, Center for Rural Health, and the University.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism; will consider other degrees with direct writing experience
  • Experience doing research and conducting interviews to inform articles
  • Experience writing, with demonstrated ability to write for the web

    • Sample web page copy (not an article) that uses web-writing best practices to convey information on a topic with which the applicant is familiar, 250-500 words
    • An email written in a professional style to request an interview with a potential program contact for the Rural Health Models and Innovations
    • A 2 - 5 page article written in a style appropriate for a magazine, newsletter, or blog
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with U.S. rural health issues through education or work experience
  • Experience or training with social media strategy
  • Experience writing for a national audience
  • Experience working with a content management system and basic HTML
  • Experience with format, layout, and design principles of electronic and print publications
  • Experience working with state or national organizations


Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$48,000+/ year, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for a 5% wage increase following successful completion of a six-month probationary period. Full-time, Benefited, Exempt.

Work Schedule/Start Date

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
