Position: Research Assistant Professor

Remuneration/Salary: Offering competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications.

Details: This position is a twelve (12) month non-tenure track special appointment with the University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS), Center for Rural Health. Academic appointment is with the Department of Population Health.

Department

The Center for Rural Health (CRH) connects resources and knowledge to strengthen the health of people in rural communities. The Center is located at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks. For over 40 years, we have worked with the public and private sectors expanding a circle of partners to develop creative solutions to critical health issues. Our approach is multi-disciplinary, as we create solutions to complex challenges. The Center for Rural Health works with communities, healthcare organizations, healthcare providers, policymakers, researchers, tribal nations, and rural health stakeholders. Much of our research is based on collaborative models with an emphasis on community-based participatory research with an effort to build local capacity in research and service implementation.

Job Summary

The UND Center for Rural Health, located within the School of Medicine and Health Sciences is seeking to fill a new position for Research Assistant Professor (non-tenure) with an emphasis in Indigenous health. The successful candidate should have experience and an understanding of Indigenous health and demonstrate research experience working collaboratively with tribal, rural, diverse, and/or underserved populations.

Duties & Responsibilities

The ideal candidate for this position will have the education, skills, talent, and experience to achieve the following:
  • Obtain grant funding for research and service projects, with priority in initiatives addressing U.S. Indigenous health needs.
  • Develop a research portfolio focused on community-engaged research.
  • Collaborate with Center for Rural Health faculty on developing externally funded projects based on areas of professional expertise in Indigenous health.
  • Serve as a lead or co-investigator to plan, organize, and work in communication with tribal stakeholders to conduct research with Indigenous communities and promote bidirectional education among tribal and academic research partners.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of designated projects to ensure that goals and objectives of the project are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters.
  • Collaborate and build partnerships with tribal communities and organizations to identify and address health equity challenges.
  • Provide mentorship to graduate research assistances working with Indigenous programs at the Center for Rural Health.
  • Publish journal articles and additional research products as relevant in peer reviewed journals. Participate in sponsored workshops and conferences to present research findings.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to Indigenous communities on state, regional, and national levels.
  • Serve with other department members, school of medicine faculty, and university colleagues on committees; and participate in other campus community opportunities.
  • As requested, assist with other teaching activities that may include lectures to students.


Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in psychology, educational research, or public health. Will consider other Ph.D. with related qualifications and experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience, working with underserved communities, preferably Indigenous communities.
  • Minimum one year experience in quantitative data management, research methodologies, and utilization of statistical programs including SPSS or similar.
  • Successful completion of criminal history record check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in grant program management, grant writing, and record of obtaining grant funding.
  • Knowledge and experience in survey construction.
  • Research experience working with tribal, rural, diverse, or other underserved populations.
  • Experience disseminating information and presenting information to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journal articles.
