The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Prof. Steven Caliari.

We are seeking candidates to work on a project leveraging novel biomaterial design for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse. The successful candidate will develop skills in these areas while also writing papers/proposals and presenting their research at meetings. The highest standards of ethics and laboratory safety will be expected at all times.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical or Biological Engineering, Chemistry, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field by the start date. The applicant should also have a track record of mentorship of undergraduate and/or graduate researchers and strong writing ability as evidenced by prior peer-reviewed publications and grant/fellowship applications.

The candidate should preferably have experience in biomaterials and tissue engineering with complementary expertise in areas such as polymer synthesis/chemistry or animal surgery. The researcher in this position will work with both graduate and undergraduate students, so preference will be given to candidates who also have experience mentoring students.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online at and attach a cover letter indicating your research interests in the Caliari Lab, a detailed curriculum vitae, and the contact information for three individuals who can provide professional reference letters.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin on February 18, 2023, but the position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.

This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for additional one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
