Job Summary This position offers an opportunity to specify system design and architecture for some of the world's most highly power dense solutions and the ability to work on unique naval applications. These designs include power converters, motor drives, uninterruptible power supplies, and power distribution systems ranging from several horsepower to multi-megawatts. Efforts also include performing associated system engineering analyses, developing and managing related system requirements and specifications, working with a program team to disseminate and guide the design and architecture, and creating related design documentation. Job Responsibilities Lead design efforts and otherwise guide development of various high power converter solutions related to naval propulsion, weapons, and support systems Responsible for driving technology and influencing product roadmaps, specifically related to advanced Motor Drives for Hybrid, Full Electric, and Gas applications Complete design activities on time and budget Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems Ability to complete a technical project independently while coordinating and strategizing with other divisions on a full-system solution (i.e. Motor and Drive) Mentor and coach other engineers, specifically in power electronics concepts such as converter topologies, device selection, system modeling, and controls Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments Document component and subsystem specifications and material requirements Analyze designs as necessary Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements Perform market research, trade-studies, root cause analyses, and other key tasks associated with R&D or customer funded contracts Develop and test prototypes to retire key development risks Communicate clearly (written and oral) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management and the customer as required Participate heavily in preparation of the more complex and significant proposals Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians and support personnel to coordinate, recommend and confer regarding technical activities and progress Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience Mastery of technologies and domain knowledge Expected to have knowledge and significant experience in multiple engineering disciplines Experience with the control and design of variable frequency drives, power electronics, and control electronics. Proficiency of Matlab and Simulink simulation tools for simulation of electrical systems down to components Model based design experience of power electronic systems desired Real-time modeling experience of power electronic systems desired Strong verbal and written communication skills to aid interactions within Engineering, other internal departments and external customers US Citizenship required.
