Baxter & Woodman, Inc. is seeking a Construction Manager with 10 or more years of experience for our Wisconsin Transportation Construction Services Department. We are seeking qualified applicants for our Wisconsin offices located in Burlington or Milwaukee. POSITION DUTIES: You will need to be available to represent our clients in the management and observation of activities related to Transportation construction, start-up, and operation of State, County, and Municipal projects located throughout Southern Wisconsin. Types of projects include: urban and rural transportation projects, including bridge and large drainage structure construction. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of the Wisconsin Department of Transportations construction policies, procedures, and softwares. This position is a working manager position and is a newly created position in our Wisconsin service area. Projects will require services ranging from several weeks to several years in duration, with variable schedules and/or hours, and will be located at one of our construction project sites. OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE: Manage assigned projects by providing direct supervision and leadership of staff assigned to the project Identify resources needed and perform or effectively delegate staff duties and responsibilities Conduct on-site observation of work, repairs, and testing, as needed. Manage multiple small and large projects successfully Monitor progress schedule and shop drawings. Resolve construction conflicts and prepare cost-effective solutions. Endeavor to provide protection for owner against defects and deficiencies in the work. Serve as liaison with contractor, working principally through contractors superintendent. Maintain job site records of Daily Reports, job meeting minutes, approved shop drawing submittals, and pay requests. Maintain records of time, equipment, and material needs for any changes in the work that may result in a change order. Review and request adjustments of compensation and/or contract time. Prepare payment estimates. Address resident complaints and concerns. Monitor staff hours and review timesheets Oversee the day-to-day operations and confirm that reports, record drawings, etc. are up to date Schedule and conduct project meetings with staff Coordinate and review work performed by sub-consultants Assist in contract negotiations Review and verify invoices and direct expense reports for accuracy and prepare support information required for contract compliance Keeps track of lessons learned and shares those lessons with team members Perform project close-out Directs the heads of departments under their supervision and coordinates their activities Ensure that assigned projects are completed within budgets, on schedule, and that professional standards of work are maintained Develop and maintain an organizational structure that fosters efficient and effective utilization of the firms talents and provides a basis for future growth and development Develop and maintain an organization, which will perform high quality engineering services and customer service in a timely, efficient and profitable manner with an emphasis on client satisfaction. Perform mentoring and annual evaluations of assigned staff Ability to provide construction management duties related to water main, water pumping and booster stations, wastewater treatment plants and lift stations, storm water collection and distribution systems, and associated pipelines and structures as needed REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree with professional engineering license preferred. 10+ years experience in construction of WisDOT related transportation work Experience in municipal work a plus Business and Management experience preferred. Ability to travel throughout Milwaukee/Burlington and surrounding counties (own transportation). Requires effective communication, both oral and written, with residents, businesses, and public agency representative. Ability to work under time constraints dealing with numerous concurrent activities Managing and leading people on individual and team level Networking and participation in professional organizations Ability to effectively coach and mentor Sufficient computer and smart phone skills for file access, use, and effective operation and communication.
