General Description POSTING TYPE: External Posting DEPARTMENT: Facilities Management HOURS: Full-time PREFERRED HIRING RANGE: $41,635 - 52,044 (DOQ) FULL SALARY RANGE: $41,635 -$65,055/year (2023 rates - 104 grade) LOCATION: Various throughout Dakota County UNION: None CLOSE DATE: This posting will remain open until the ideal candidate is identified. Building Service Technicians provide a wide range of general building maintenance tasks and department services including but not limited to installing & adjusting modular furniture, furniture moves, room set ups, lighting, housekeeping & custodial services and snow & ice removal. Technicians assist in the operation, maintenance and repair of plumbing, electrical and structural systems of all County facilities. This position also monitors work done by a variety of contractors in completing housekeeping and general building maintenance tasks. AND One year experience in custodial and building maintenance. OR One year specialized or technical training beyond high school. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. AND Valid Driver's License Preferred Skills: Basic Ipad andcomputer skills to complete basic tasks such as: create & send emails, open & modify word or excel documents, and perform internet searches. Duties & Responsibilities These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required for all positions. 1. Perform general building maintenance & repairs to building systems such as lighting, doors, plumbing, and cabinetry. 2. Perform departmental service tasks such as office moves of furniture, files & equipment within and between County buildings. 3. Perform assembly of and adjustments to work stations, office shelving, library shelving and other office and Library furniture. 4. Support maintenance staff under their direction withpreventative maintenancerepairs such as filter changes, coil cleaning, and other building repairs as assigned. 5. Perform backup emergency housekeeping tasks which may include bodily fluids as directed and routine cleaning tasks as directed in County Building, secured facilities, mechanical rooms, dock, shop and garage areas. 6. Perform snow/ice removal using shovel, power equipment and vehicle mounted plow as directed. Salt walks to provide for safe building environments. 7. Document work completed into a computerized work order management system. 8. Maintain inventories of parts/supplies thruFacilities ManagementPurchasing. 9. Perform repairs to and minor replacement of floor coverings. 10. Complete room setups as requested. 11. Perform safety inspections to exit lighting, fire extinguishers, AED's, eyewash stations and OSHA Safe Walking Surfaces guidelines. 12. Complete other related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Above listed duties are essential functions. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment Knowledge and skill in housekeeping practices and procedures. Knowledge in the use of Safety Data Sheets to appropriately and safely use appropriate personal protective equipment. Knowledge of the appropriate methods and equipment operation for snow & ice removal. General knowledge of safe work practices. Basic knowledge of the practices and procedures of building maintenance and repair. Basic knowledge of various mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Ability to work with minimal supervision, set priorities and organize multiple work tasks Ability to work in a team environment and take direction from team leaders. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work occasional overtime. Knowledge and ability to complete basic computer work tasks such as: create & send emails, open & modify word or excel documents, and perform basic internet searches. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside and outside of County office buildings, libraries, transportation facilities, and two Detention Centers. Travel within the County while driving a County owned vehicle is required but limited. The posture and movement requirements for this position are: walk, push/pull and reach forward on a continuous basis, bend/stoop and twist on a frequent basis, and sit, stand, low level work, crouch, squat/kneel, balance, climb stairs, reach overhead, and lie on back and side on an occasional basis. The position lifts and carries items up to 10 pounds on a continuous basis, up to 24 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Anything over 75 pounds should be done as a team lift. Periodic climbing to a height of 30 feet is required. Working at heights of 80 feet or more such as on rooftops and when replacing atrium lighting is required, but infrequent. The position requires: simple & firm grasping and fine finger coordination on a frequent basis and bending & twisting of the arm on a continuous basis. The incumbent must have the ability to use the right foot and have a full range of head motion to drive, operate equipment, and perform daily work. Exposures may include, but are not limited to changing weather conditions, moving machinery, powered equipment, uneven and/or slippery surfaces, loud noise, dust, dirt, oil, grease, solvents/chemicals, fumes, vibrations, noise, sharp edges, airborne/blood/bodily fluids, working at heights or congested areas, and all hazards associated with outdoor and building work. Position requires sensory demands of hearing, speech, near & far vision, tactile, and spatial perception. Equipment used but not limited to include: cellular phones, personal computer, personal safety equipment, moving machinery, building equipment, powered snow removal equipment, floor cleaning equipment, and any of a large list of powered and hand tools.
