SUMMARY

The Classroom Aide assists the Head Start teacher with all classroom activities, prepares and serves snacks and lunches, cooperates with the teacher, assistant teacher and other Head Start staff in providing the best possible program. Works with children and families in the classroom and performs other duties as assigned by the teacher.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Implement the daily lesson plans including Creative Curriculum.
Observe and assist with child assessments.
Implement local, state and Head Start federal guidelines.
Works with children individually and in groups and accompanies the class on field trips.
Works with teacher and teacher assistant to prepare, serve and clean up snacks and lunches. Participates in meal times.
Assists the teacher and assistant teacher with cleaning and maintenance of the center.
Stocks and maintains the inventory of general classroom supplies.
Assist the teacher with communications to staff and parents to ensure complete services for each child.
Assists in maintaining a safe indoor and outdoor environment in all aspects of the program.
Attends team meetings, Head Start and CAP Agency trainings/meetings and other trainings as assigned.
Welcomes assists and supports parents and other volunteers in the center.
Assists in planning, organizing and providing child care for Parent Center Committees and Family Events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Prior Early Childhood experience and previous experience working with children with special needs preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Have the ability to lift and carry 40 pounds and climb stairs. Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old and possess a high school diploma/GED. Current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR Certificate preferred.

Knowledge of:
Classroom policies and procedures.
Methods and techniques to assist children with educational and recreational programs.
Basic principles of record keeping and records management.
Personal computers utilizing standard software.
Safety rules and regulations.

Skill in:

Maintaining composure and working effectively under classroom conditions.
Communicating effectively with children.
Following verbal and written instructions.
Exercising good judgment in all situations.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
Effective verbal and written communication.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver's License may be required.

COVID 19 REQUIREMENT: The Office of Head Start is requiring all Head Start employees to complete their COVID-19 vaccination series by 1/31/2022, or upon starting date, unless the Scott Carver Dakota CAP Agency approves a medical or religious accommodation as required by applicable law. New employees must submit vaccination documentation or be approved for an exemption/accommodation before beginning work.
