Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer of Brookfield's Renewable Power Group, the Senior Vice President, Tax will lead the global tax function, including M&A transaction support and overseeing all aspects of the Renewable Power tax function. This role will work closely with the senior executive team and investment professionals globally. The role provides an excellent career opportunity for a leadership role in a dynamic and growing organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the tax function globally for the Renewable Power group, including all tax strategies, tax planning, tax risk management, financial reporting and tax compliance;
  • Provide tax support for strategic transactions and optimize the tax position of the Renewable Power group, including portfolio companies;
  • Develop Renewable Power fund structures and consider tax issues for our fund investors;
  • Communicate tax matters to the senior executive team on a regular basis and work closely with the Finance, Treasury, Corporate Finance and HR teams;
  • Oversee tax compliance, tax forecasting, quarterly tax reporting, government tax audits and tax risk management reporting;
  • Lead and develop the Tax team in the Renewable Power group;
  • Coordinate with Brookfield's Corporate Tax team on major transactions and issues and ensure reporting and information is delivered on a timely basis;
  • Communicate with the tax teams in other business groups to share knowledge, best practices and ensure consistency across the group.
  • Maintain technical tax knowledge and stay abreast of tax developments globally.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 15 years corporate tax experience in an accounting or law firm or in industry with a multinational corporate group;
  • CPA/CA and/or JD/LLB
  • Extensive experience with M&A transactions, private fund tax matters and IFRS public reporting;
  • Experience with cross-border tax issues, Canadian foreign affiliate rules, foreign country tax systems and transfer pricing;
  • Understanding of tax compliance and reporting requirements in Canada;
  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a very fast-paced environment;
  • Strong ability to communicate complex tax matters and issues in a clear and concise manner;
  • Ability to lead and develop a team of tax professionals and gain cooperation of others;
  • Demonstrated capability to make decisions and set a clear direction;
  • Ability to apply a pragmatic and creative approach to handling complex tax matters.
