About the Job

Position:

Full-time, nine-month, annual-renewable lecturer position in Communication (Class #9753) in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota starting August 14, 2023. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, and a competitive fringe benefits package is offered. Lecturers are eligible for professional development support. Final job offer is contingent upon completed background check and receipt of official transcripts.

Responsibilities:
The Communication programs seek a generalist who will teach a variety of communication and public speaking courses for majors and non-majors. Depending on department needs, the candidate will have opportunities to teach more specialized advanced courses. The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop lower- and upper-division communication and speech curriculum.

Along with classroom instruction expectations, the successful candidate will:

• advise students;
• participate in recruitment and retention efforts;
• engage in department and campus service activities;
• enhance programs and student experiences, as well as employment opportunities;
• provide service to the department, institution, and profession;
• help expand our network with the industry to benefit our programs, student experience, and student employment opportunities;
• work collaboratively with faculty colleagues.

This appointment carries a 30.0 credit hour workload per academic year, distributed over the fall and spring semesters.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Communication, Communication Studies, or closely related field;
  • Passion for teaching and student-centered service;
  • Ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences;
  • Effective communication skills;
  • Ability to deliver effective teaching both on campus and online;
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competency;
  • Commitment to an experiential educational philosophy within the scope of the land grant mission.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Communication, Communication Studies, or closely related field;
  • Experience developing and teaching college-level communication courses, both on-campus and online
