About the Job The School of Public Health (SPH) is seeking applications for our full-time Senior Academic Advisor position (9704AA SS Pro 4-Academic Advising). Starting salary range is $58,000-$66,000 dependent upon the selected candidate's relevant qualifications and internal equity. Work Arrangements: This position is eligible for a hybrid working schedule with weekly on-campus expectations. Onsite location is 420 Delaware Street SE, Mayo Memorial Building (Mayo), Minneapolis, MN 55455 - East Bank campus. The person in this role will contribute to the SPH community and a positive student experience by working to recruit and support undergraduate students in the School of Public Health. The Senior Advisor works closely with students, SPH Student Services staff, University transfer admissions staff, and undergraduate campus partners. The Senior Advisor will report to the Director of Student Records, Curriculum, and Compliance, and regularly collaborate on projects related to student recruitment and support. The Public Health BA is the first undergraduate program offered by the School of Public Health and will launch with an initial cohort of up to 35 students in Fall 2023. This program is junior-admitting, Inter-College transfer (ICT) only for the Fall 2023 cohort and ICT, New Advanced Standing (NAS), and Intra-University Transfer (IUT) for Fall 2024 and beyond. The person in this role will regularly collaborate with the Director of Student Records, Curriculum, and Compliance, the Assistant Dean for the Enrolled Student Experience, and other SPH staff to develop the implementation of the processes, policies, opportunities, and signature events for the SPH undergraduate experience. Major Responsibilities: Academic Advising 40% Prospective Student Advising, Recruitment, and Outreach 40% Assessment and Tracking 10% Service and Professional Development 10% Detailed Responsibilities: Academic Advising 40% Build authentic relationships with admitted SPH undergraduate students through virtual and in-person one-on-one appointments, drop-in advising, and email communication Guide students through the process of developing individualized educational plans and strategies for academic success that are reflective of their unique set of values, strengths, interests, and identities Help students build skills and engage in opportunities that guide their educational plans, facilitate timely graduation, and make progress toward career goals Collaborate with Director of Student Records, Curriculum, and Compliance to create and document systems for advising expectations and options, student degree progress tracking, and student outreach Champion the value of engagement in co-curricular experiences and how they connect to students' academic and career goals Utilize a holistic advising model to guide, challenge, and support students in learning how to make important reflective decisions about major, personal, and career aspirations Help students navigate policies and procedures and determine when exceptions may be appropriate Coach students on making registration choices that promote timely and realistic degree progress Advise students who are pursuing an individualized bachelor's degree that has a public health focus area Serve as a campus navigator, connecting students with SPH and UMN resources best suited to help them reach their goals Collaborate with SPH Student Services staff on engagement opportunities and events, refer students to SPH Career Services as appropriate Prospective Student Advising, Recruitment, and Outreach 40% Serve as point of contact for prospective internal and external transfer students Advise prospective transfer students by email, phone, and meetings, providing tailored information and resources to their unique needs and goals Collaborate with Associate Director of Recruitment & Admissions to develop and implement the recruitment and communication plan for each cohort Host information sessions for prospective transfer students Provide coaching for prospective students regarding the application process Facilitate the admissions and decision-making process, including transcript reviews for program-specific prerequisites, supplemental question review, etc. Lead the planning and execution of undergraduate orientation sessions Regularly communicate with the campus advising community and the University transfer admissions staff about the program, serve as representative on community college visits, and external outreach Assessment and Tracking 10% Maintain accurate records about student interactions in order to best support the student as they navigate campus Conduct timely outreach to meet student needs, build relationships, and encourage timely degree completion Review student progress reports at key academic markers, such as probation, degree application, or major declaration to determine appropriate next steps for student success Establish a regular system for monitoring student academic progress, engage in proactive outreach to students Analyze student records and trends using the APLUS records system, calculate graduation and retention rates Service and Professional Development 10% Engage as a member of SPH Student Services staff through staff meetings, retreats, professional development, events, etc. as applicable Contribute to SPH and SPH Student Services initiatives, serve or committees or working groups as needed Commitment to ongoing social justice and racial equity work in order to identify, challenge, and remove barriers to access at the individual, community, and system level Actively engage in ongoing professional development opportunities Represent the School of Public Health at cross-campus committees as assigned Qualifications To ensure full consideration of your application, be sure to upload a resume and cover letter which detail your qualifications for this position. Required Qualifications: BA/BS degree plus at least five years of relevant experience, or master's degree plus at least three years of relevant experience.
