The journeyman plant technician is under the immediate supervision of the maintenance supervisor, or other designated Supervisor. The journeyman plant technician is under the guidance of the electrician, instrument technician, or plant technician.  Journeyman plant technicians are responsible for performing maintenance testing and troubleshooting on all electrical and electronic equipment. In this position, you will perform repair and maintenance on, but not limited to, low, medium, to high voltage switchgear, motor control centers, protective relay equipment, control systems, actuated valves and other field devices.  Performs typical duties under guidance, but may also work with other maintenance classifications as a composite crew in the performance of typical duties. 

Typical Duties

­(1)       To understand and obey all Minnkota safety and environmental procedures while performing your work activities.

(2)       To understand and interpret schematics, logic diagrams and all electrical diagrams.

(3)       Is accountable for maintaining work areas, tools, and equipment in a neat, orderly, and safe condition.

 (4)      Requires the ability to frequently work in areas of extreme heat or cold, noise and dirt/dust; and occasionally around fumes, chemicals and vibrations.

 (5)      Required to work at heights, climb into and around machinery and work in small                               spaces.

 (6)      To proficiently use shop tools and equipment to troubleshoot, repair and service electrical systems and equipment.

 (7)      Employee must be familiar and knowledgeable with all Minnkota’s computer software programs; MS Microsoft Office, Oracle or any other work related software.

 (8)      Must be able to work overtime, weekends and callouts as required.

 (9)      Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with all plant peers.

(10)     Create, update and complete accurate documentation of work orders, service reports, upgrades, technical logs, maintenance manuals and electrical drawings.

(11)     Have good oral, written and troubleshooting skills.

(12)     Attend and complete required training.

(13)     Must be able to meet all requirements on Minnkota’s physical capability form.

(14)     Must obey and understand all policies and procedures in the Minnkota Corporate Policies and Procedures Handbook. 

(15)     All other duties as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have completed a 2 year technical program related to electrical technology, electronics, instrumentation, HVAC or equivalent study.  Must have and maintain a valid driver license. Cannot be color identification impaired.
