Black Gold Farms has a new position available as a Digital Agronomy and Sustainability Analyst. This position is focused on traditional and emerging digital technologies such as Remote Sensing, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Internet of Things and Precision Agriculture in agronomy and biological engineering.  This includes organization, aggregation, analysis, and reporting of farm generated data collected by staff and digital systems.  The role encompasses the evaluation and implementation of third-party tools that provide digital characterization of cropping systems grown by Black Gold, to apply innovations and optimize sustainable production practices.  The position will also have primary responsibility for overseeing the ongoing collection of sustainability measurements and subsequent reporting to customers and other entities important to Black Gold Farms. 

 

Other responsibilities include:

  • Working collaboratively with the agronomy team to develop and implement digital agriculture strategies for sustainable crop production.
  • Capturing yield, quality, and other essential metrics relative to the crops being grown.
  • Developing and maintaining digital dashboards that provide timely and relevant information to assist in making crop production decisions.
  • Collaborating closely with the IT team to provide technical expertise and ensure data collected is accurate.
  • Leading sustainability data collection and reporting.
  • Participating in developing innovative production practices that focus on sustainability.
  • Collaborating with the agronomy team on research trial coordination and development.
  • Assisting the agricultural engineering team with projects that have digital aspects.
  • Supporting the farming and agronomy teams in all other areas as needed.

 

The ideal candidate for this role is an engineer looking to do agronomy / agriculture-based work. Specific qualifications include:

  • Minimum of a BS degree in Environmental or Agricultural and Biological Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with state-of-the-art agriculture digital systems, including remote sensing and yield monitoring.
  • Experience conducting research and statistical analysis, using database systems, including R or equivalent software, PowerBI or other dashboard tools.
  • Basic knowledge of agronomy and crop production.
  • Experience identifying cause and effect relationships.
  • Experience integrating ag equipment and farming operational activities into digital systems.
