Position Overview

The Product Manager is responsible for effectively and efficiently managing the product and technical aspects of the supplier relationship. This includes building strong supplier relationships, performing market and product evaluation and expansion, as well as recommending potential opportunities for new and existing suppliers. The Product Manager serves as the point person for the product and technical communications for all assigned suppliers.

Responsibilities

Must be able to...
  • Gain extensive product knowledge of assigned suppliers and markets
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers; working to add product lines & drive the partnership value
  • Review/Maintain/Update Product Manager Check List
  • Research suppliers and technologies not currently included on line card for possible addition
  • Assist in the development supplier business plan,monitoring said plans to drive to proposed results
  • Create & implement new supplier onboarding strategy
  • Review and monitor sales trends for product line additions|deletions
  • Assist suppliers in the development of Product Training Modules (PTM's); responsible for maintaining the supplier landing page
  • Attend supplier training and seminars when needed and provide trip report upon return
  • Modify Product Class Code for assigned suppliers|technology category as needed; partner with PMA and Product Data Management team on execution & maintenance
  • Train Technical Support personnel with information from supplier trainings or factory visits
  • Test new products or customer returns as needed
  • Compile meeting agenda/summary reports in conjunction with supplier visits; responsible for action item follow-up
  • Communicate all pertinent information as received to appropriate people/departments
  • Resource & collaborative partner for Marketing teams (Digital and Partnership) in determining potential promotional activity
  • Resource & collaborative partner for Asset Management team in determination for certain inventory initiatives and resolution of escalated technical issues
  • Resource & collaborative partner for Product Data Management team in supplier & product data initiatives and resolution of escalated supplier & product data issues
  • Resource & collaborative partner for Operational Excellence on quality issues/SCARS/FA's; partner with PMA if applicable
  • Understand area KPIs|OKRs (e.g. market share, SKU count|new line items, new suppliers, NPI packets, etc); be able to align your actions|recommendations as PM to those metrics (within your scope of responsibility)
  • Actively identify opportunities for continued learning (e.g. skills, knowledge, etc); regularly create and take advantage of learning opportunities
  • Aware of external changes to business market as well as competitors and supplier public business announcements (e.g. Quarterly Financial Statements|Investor Calls, Mergers & Acquisitions) and begin to understand the impact to your supplier|product strategy
  • Offer advanced technical support to customers or internal departments as needed|requested (and/or coordinate supplier resources where needed)

Other Typical Tasks May also Include:
  • May assist in the review of potential new and existing supplier contracts
  • May take on additional responsibilities from Sr. Product Manager
  • May participates on cross-functional working teams or tasks forces
  • May test system updates and applications
  • May participate in the creation of training & documentation of processes as well as the facilitation of training
  • May travel - internationally and|or domestically - as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Minimum/Essential Qualifications:
  • Associate of Applied Science degree in Electronics Technology or Bachelor of Science in related field with a minimum grade point average of 2.50 or equivalent experience in the electronics field
  • Typically 2+ years of experience in Sales, Marketing, or Tech Support
  • Strong understanding of the industry Digi-Key operates in
  • Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen
  • Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body
