Position Overview:

The Vice President, Americas contributes to Digi-Key by being responsible for selling the company's services and leading the team responsible for customer development along with management of strategic accounts. The VP reports to the VP of Global Business Development and will play a critical role in growing Digi-Key to the next level. This position has the responsibility for building, leading and managing the entire Americas Business Development infrastructure which will continue to focus on driving growth from a combination of market segments.

The Vice President, Americas will play a critical role in building executive-level relationships; building strategic partnerships, and leading strategies to reach key business objectives. This role is responsible for expanding our influence, impact, and customer loyalty through business development activities and strategic partnerships to build upon our services related but not limited to Supply Chain programs and Digital tools. The leadership skills of this individual must positively impact our customer's and team's objectives while solving complete business issues, both strategic and tactical in nature, and may include leading internal initiatives. As a senior member of the Digi-Key team, you will have the opportunity to shape our expanding impact with our customers by solving complex challenges for and with them.

This role is both people and project-oriented which requires a demonstrated ability for strong innovation, consulting, relationship building and management skills. The Vice President, Americas will work with Digi-Key's global team as well as external partners (current and prospect) to nurture and grow new and expanded customer opportunities for Digi-Key.

The Vice President, Americas must be a passionate leader, innovative thinker, and contributor who blends solid business development skills with proven revenue growth experience. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of establishing deep relationships throughout the organization including the executive team

This is not exclusively an essential onsite role but does require some onsite attendance. Based in Minnesota, the ideal candidate will be located in or willing to relocate near our Thief River Falls headquarters or in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and willing to travel to Thief River Falls up to 50% of the time.

Grow Customer/Region Portfolio
  • Drive the digital growth of the product and service portfolio for assigned customers in region; do so by building and managing key business relationships and creating integrated business strategies and plans in support of both Digi-Key's business goals and the customers business goals (e.g. sales, market share, margin, ROI, etc)
  • Work closely with the Assigned Sales, Supply Chain Solutions, Supplier Development & Management, Procurement departments to aid in identifying and building the loyalty with these accounts
  • Work with suppliers in building Digi-Key's presence as a premier distributor, carrying that relationship through the manufacturers' sales channels as it relates to Digi-Key's strategic initiatives; helping improve Digi-Key's overall reputation and position with suppliers on our initiatives
  • Advance the "Digital" (Connectivity Solutions i.e. API, Punch-out, EDI, etc.) Digi-Key tools and interface with the correctly identified customer to enhance our engagement in this space


Strategic Direction and Leadership
  • Oversee the end-to-end business development process between the business and its new and existing partners
  • Manage metrics and evaluate effectiveness of business development, account management, and sales efforts to support overall business growth objectives
  • Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise the Business Development team and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work. Be the driving force in the development of the work ethic, culture, and values of the business development team
  • Establish, prepare, and manage quarterly business goals, performance metrics and tracking processes for business development activities
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams (marketing, product, operations, and finance) to develop leads, presentations, and structure multimillion-dollar business deals that drive overarching company goals - such as revenue, asset price, and product adoption
  • Manage external partnership deals from start to finish, including ongoing account management aspects to ensure the relationships are successful
  • Interact, present, and negotiate with executive-level leadership
  • Set short-, medium- and long-term strategic objectives of the Business Development function
  • Effectively collaborate with fellow executives and managers across functions within Digi-Key (Assigned Accounts, Finance, Operations, Procurement, etc.)


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or a similar area of study or equivalent relevant work experience. Master's degree in Business or other relevant areas of study (preferred).
  • 10+ years of management experience
  • Experience operating in a global market; understanding global and regional cultures, nuances, and the impact to business approach
  • 12+ industry experience in Business Development or other relevant work experience
  • A Digital mindset, being able to see and utilize data, digital tools, algorithms, and more to increase success is key Strong contractual and negotiating skills coupled with effective business and fiscal management skills
  • Substantial track record of leadership in strategy and operational excellence in developing new business for an organization and managing a business development process from prospecting and qualifying, to winning in business to business and business to consumer markets
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare clear materials such as documents, presentations, and other communication tools for both internal (e.g. leadership presentation, deal memos) and external facing activities (e.g. negotiation and/or terms decks, capabilities presentations)
