JOB DESCRIPTION

Education:
1. Graduate of a Bachelor's level Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders program.
2. Certificate of Completion in speech-language pathology issued by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, Office of Special Education.
3. Speech Language Pathology Licensed Assistant license issued from the North Dakota Board of Examiners.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in a school setting preferred
  • Basic academic and computer skills
  • Ability to work well with students
  • Excellent human relations and communications skills

Job Goal:
To provide speech-language therapy services under the direction of a Speech-Language Pathologist to students identified with a disability in the area of speech language impairment.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide speech-language therapy services under the direction of a speech-language pathologist
  • Assist supervising speech-language pathologist with planning lessons for students
  • Perform documented tasks developed by the supervising speech-language pathologist
  • Document student's progress toward IEP goals and objectives
  • Prepare materials, perform scheduling, and maintain space or equipment
  • Participate in IEP meetings with the supervising speech-language pathologist
  • Work with students individually or in groups
  • Assist with speech-language screenings
  • Complete Medicaid billing paperwork for students who are eligible
  • Comply with speech pathology licensed assistant supervision requirements

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.
Occasionally may need to lift up to fifty (50); reaching, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling within the classroom.
The employee may encounter situations where students are physically aggressive and/or verbally abusive. This may require physical interaction (using strategies acquired through de-escalation and restraint training) between the employee and student. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be exposed to infection at a greater risk than the average person. May be directly responsible for the safety, well-being and/or output of students.
Terms of Employment: 8 hours per day, Monday - Friday, Nine (9) months, academic school year of the students enrolled.

Evaluation: Annual written evaluation by the supervisor
