Description

The Memorial Union Audio-Visual Technology Coordinator serves as an essential member of the Memorial Union staff team and will serve as the Memorial Union (MU) technology expert in managing, operating, and supporting audio-visual (A/V) services and specialty technology systems that support scheduled events and building operations. The Coordinator is responsible for onsite, frontline audio-visual technology equipment setup/teardown, event production including program monitoring and transitions, and equipment and system troubleshooting as needed. The Audio-Visual Technology Coordinator oversees the coordination of audio-visual technology equipment or systems repairs as designated and makes recommendations and/or assists with equipment inventory or systems research, replacement schedules or procurement processes. The Memorial Union Audio-Visual Technology Coordinator will provide direct supervision of MU AV Tech Assistants.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage all built-in technology and portable technology.
  • Serve as primary technical on-site person for all high-profile events.
  • Provide on-site technical expertise, support, and service for a broad range of meetings and special events.
  • Perform pre-event testing and provide support for advance scheduled program run-throughs/rehearsals. Troubleshoot and resolve any audio-visual-related issues occurring during live events.
  • Serve as an audio/visual technology consultant, resource, or liaison to customers.
  • Serve as a member of work groups or planning committees; participate in customer/stakeholder event meetings.
  • Engage in communication with event organizers/sponsors, special presenters, guests, and program attendees which may include diverse individuals or groups
  • Consult or provide recommendations on audio/visual technology equipment or approach to meet or exceed scheduled event expectations.
  • Attend weekly event planning & coordination meetings with MU Scheduling & Event Services and Building Operations staff.
  • Coordinate equipment and transportation logistics as requested for special events scheduled in alternative locations as feasible.
  • Work collaboratively with outsourced or supplemental service providers or contracted vendors, performers, other entities as applicable.
  • Contribute expertise and assist with support of department-level access and usage of building event venue and security camera networked systems.
  • Maintain awareness of developing trends in A/V technology. Participate in certification training classes, workshops or conferences, as applicable.
  • Interpret special event technical contract riders and oversee implementation of event production services in collaboration with customers and external vendors.
  • Manage Memorial Union audio/visual messaging, including digital signage equipment in collaboration with the MU Marketing Coordinator.
  • Serve as the direct supervisor of the Audio-Visual Tech Assistants staff team; includes the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, evaluation, termination of student staff who provide direct frontline AV support for meetings and special events.
  • Write and maintain job descriptions for AV student positions ensuring all position descriptions incorporate student learning outcomes.
  • Develop and provide training programs, resources, and tools to student staff providing A/V technology and event production services.
  • Provide functional supervision as needed during scheduled work shifts of additional building operations student staff (indirect supervisory support).
  • Serve as an onsite resource and support to MU building managers as needed.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory and monitor the working condition of AV equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot A/V or multimedia equipment or system issues using applicable software, diagnostic or testing tools or analysis; make basic repairs as feasible and/or make recommendations or arrangements for outsourced equipment repairs or replacements.
  • Utilize campus purchasing processes and platform to procure A/V technology equipment, supplies or accessories.
  • Contribute to event space inspections as may be needed to document general building equipment or space issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Competencies

  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite computer programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated experience with critical thinking, problem-solving, organizational and written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience using standard office equipment to include multi-line phone systems, copiers, fax machines etc.
  • Ability to multi-task and work successfully in a fast-paced, high-energy, customer service setting.


Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's degree.
  • Three years of directly related audio-visual technology work experience.
  • Work experience within a departmental unit, program or service area.
  • Experience with event planning, coordination and execution within a University, hospitality event management or related field.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years of directly related audio-visual technology work experience.
  • Experience supervising, coaching, advising or mentoring student staff or volunteers within a University or other educational setting.
  • Possess a student-centered philosophy committed to supporting a work and campus environment focused on inclusion and diversity and the building of campus community.


Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$46,000+ / year; exempt; benefited; full-time

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm, variable. Evenings and weekends as needed.
