A day in the life

The Account Specialist is responsible for supporting the sales and account management activities for all product lines. This includes answering member, client and/or broker inquires, assisting in enrollment processing, claims billing, account servicing as well as client implementation and renewal process.

 

Your responsibilities will include
  • Provides assistance, service and education to members, clients and/or brokers. Ensures accuracy and timeliness in responding to a variety of inquiries. Processes and resolves issues with varying complexities, which may include documentation of calls, system updates and/or claims research.
  • Ensures proper follow-up regarding inquiries from members, clients, and/or brokers relaying and gathering appropriate information to and from internal team members to resolve issues or discrepancies.
  • Educates and provides product information and application assistance for members, clients and/or brokers.
  • Assists with distribution of materials to clients.
  • Assists internal staff in communicating processes, claims filing requirements, contract changes, underwriting policies and billing procedures to clients, consultants, agents, brokers, and members.
  • Completes, reviews and processes client and individual paperwork. Follows-up for additional information, as needed.
  • Researches and resolves benefits, billing and/or claims issues.
  • Supports sales and account management activities such as processing new to blue clients and renewals for assigned accounts.
  • Proactively informs internal team members regarding changes to client information.
  • Calculates renewal rates and formulates a proposal for new to blue clients and renewals.
  • Sells individual products including health insurance, Medicare products, supplemental insurance, dental, vision, travel and ancillary products, if applicable.

 

What you need to succeed
  • A High School Diploma / GED and at least 1 year of experience in a customer-focused role.
  • Insurance Producer License or willingness to obtain this within 3 months of hire and maintain continuing education requirements annually.
  • Shows interest in understanding the needs and expectations of others.
  • Pays close attention to the details of work.
  • Clearly communicates when delivering information to others.
  • Has the ability to prioritize in a changing environment and is organized.
  • Uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action when collaborating with others.

 

Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards

Job posting policy

Employees new to Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota are eligible to apply for positions within their assigned department after successfully completing 90-days in their role. For positions outside of their department, new employees should attain a minimum of six months of service before applying for a new role. Exceptions to this are acceptable, provided there is good business justification for making the move.
