The Chief Medical Officer ( CMO ) is an officer and member of the Senior Leadership Team of Osceola Medical Center (OMC), and reports to the OMC Board of Directors. The CMO is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of medical care at OMC.

In that regard, the CMO will:

  • Serve as the chair of OMC's Senior Leadership Team, which is made up of (i) the CMO, (ii) OMC's Medical Directors (Hospital Services, Clinic Services, and ER Services), and (iii) OMC's Administrators (the CEO, Hospital Services, Clinic Services, and ER Services).
  • Work in collaboration with the CEO and other members of OMC's Senior Leadership Team to form and employ an executive-physician leadership model for OMC.
  • Actively participate in OMC's policy development, strategic planning, governance, and resource allocation processes.
  • Act as a spokesperson to promote and educate the Osceola community about the services offered by OMC.
  • Actively participate in and coordinate processes to improve the services offered by OMC and to develop and implement new services offered by OMC.
  • Serve as the chief of professional services for all OMC-based physicians, including, but not limited to, OMC-based physicians that are part of the HealthPartners Medical Group (HPMG) and OMC-based outreach/specialty physicians. In this capacity, the CMO will report to the Regional Medical Director of HPMG and work with the HPMG Practice Director on physician practice and business issues. This leadership position will drive innovation and improvement in a professional community of physicians and advanced practice providers through relationship building and the use of best practices to attain benchmark performance in the areas of clinical outcomes, patient experience and total cost of care.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise, oversee, and support OMC's Chief of Staff (COS).
  • Attend medical staff meetings and appropriate medical staff committee meetings.
  • Attend OMC Board of Director meetings.
  • Participate in organizational planning and budgeting processes.
  • In collaboration with the COS, monitor all OMC-based physicians and advanced practice providers and overall clinical performance (ie, patient satisfaction, access, health outcomes, staff satisfaction and stewardship).
  • Respectfully hold Department Medical Directors and clinicians accountable to job expectations.
  • Work with appropriate Department Medical Director and the COS regarding medical staff issues and complaints and work collaboratively with Department Medical Directors to create specific corrective action plans if job performance is deficient.
  • As needed, work with the COS and appropriate Department Medical Director to resolve patient concerns and complaints.
  • Promote partnership, collaboration, collegiality, and communication with primary care physicians and advanced practice providers.
  • Assure strong communication and decision-making processes.
  • Oversee OMC's relationship with HPMG and Osceola-based HPMG providers, including, but not limited to, scheduling regular meetings with such parties.
  • Actively promote and monitor effectiveness of Care Model Process (CMP) or similar programs in order to advance patient care and promote overall efficiency, effectiveness and experience.
  • Provide line management direction and direct supervision to departments of the medical staff and HPMG-Osceola Medical Group Department Medical Directors.
  • Supervise and coordinate physician recruitment, credentialing, contractor evaluations.
  • Serve as advisor to and participate in scheduled meetings as requested by the Senior Leadership Team and Physician Leadership.
  • Serve as a liaison between the medical staff, the COS, OMC administration, and the Board of Directors.
  • Involve, engage and communicate with all Osceola-based providers to ensure that their perspectives are heard and provider to OMC's leadership.
  • Provide direction to the Senior Leadership Team and Physician Leadership on issues and plans for improvement and/or enhancement of services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • MD or DO degree

Experience:

  • At least 5 years' experience as a practicing physician
  • Experience in a Leadership role

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated clinical and leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated use of clinical process improvement methods and tools in an organized medical setting
  • Interest and willingness to learn effective management and program development skills in a healthcare environment
  • Demonstrated communication skills and ability to work with all levels of professionals within a multi-specialty organization
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple agendas
  • Interacts directly with other managers, nurses and provider staff to promote problem solving and guidance.
  • Ability to communicate with and earn respect of provider peers
  • Ability to think conceptually and communicate the vision of the organization to key stakeholders within the organization and the community at large.

Licensure/Registration/Certification:

  • License to practice in the State of Wisconsin
  • Board-certified in practice specialty
  • Current medical license in good standing with medical board
  • Valid DEA Certificate
  • A member in good standing at Osceola Medical Center.
  • Certification or active development in physician leadership
