The University of Virginia School of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-ineligible Research Assistant Professor to work in the lab of Dr. Todd Bauer. The successful candidate will conduct research in the Department of Surgery with a focus on advanced genetic and molecular research in pancreatic and colorectal cancer. The candidate will be responsible for conducting Western blotting, CRISPR gene knock out and knock in, pooled CRISPR screening, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, and ATAC-seq. In addition, the candidate will assist in performing mouse surgeries for pancreatic and colon tumor implantation and splenic injection. There are no clinical responsibilities associated with this position.

Qualified applicants will possess a Doctoral degree in Biochemistry, Physiology, Cancer Biology, Pharmacology, or a closely related field and will also have successfully completed a post-doctoral fellowship in a biomedical research lab focusing on cancer biology. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate basic knowledge in research design, implementation of research procedures, data analysis, interpretation of results, presentation of data, and manuscript preparation and grant writing. Necessary relevant experience includes conducting research and data analysis in cancer, robust experience with CRISPR gene knock out and knock in and pooled CRISPR screening as well as RNA-seq, CHIP-seq, and ATAC-seq and experience with mouse surgeries. The candidate is also expected to have strong communication skills and be willing to participate in team-based research and to train post-doctoral researchers or graduate students in the lab.

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
