of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Program and Scientist

Academic Career & Executive Search is pleased to assist University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences in its search for Deputy Director of the North Dakota IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Program and Scientist.

This is a unique opportunity for a knowledgeable leader with tremendous grant experience to demonstrate leadership commensurate with leading the INBRE grant. The successful candidate will coordinate with the Principal Investigator (PI) of the INBRE grant and the Division of Research & Economic Development in all INBRE grant responsibilities. This responsibility consists of assisting in the overall operation and oversight over the INBRE program including:
  • Carry out management duties such as grant management, drafting and submitting reports, and preparing for renewals.
  • Collaborate on budgeting, related finance matters, and review subcontracts.
  • Coordinate and integrate INBRE project PIs from several project sites.
  • Prepare and submit compliance documentation as appropriate.
  • Teach within respective discipline.
  • Sit on committees including national, university, school, departmental, and student committees while providing leadership in the areas of student pathway programs.
  • Increase the research capacity of the state, universities, community and tribal colleges, and individual researchers by improving the infrastructure for research and training.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to grow the research enterprise.
  • Collaborate with department chairs on mentoring new faculty.
  • Engage is productive scholarly and creative activity independently or collaboratively with others in the department, school, university, or community.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This position reports to the INBRE Principal Investigator (PI). Also reports to the Chair of department of the director's respective discipline regarding discipline-specific activities.

Minimum Requirements

  • MD/DO/PhD degree.
  • Six years as a PI with a history of recent research funding, publications, and national recognition.
  • Leadership experience of a collaborative research team.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history records check.


Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with private and federal funding mechanisms.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to develop strong partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership of a collaborative research center or program.

Greater Grand Forks offers plenty of outdoor recreation, restaurants, nightlife and shopping opportunities. A wide variety of arts organizations, symphony orchestra, galleries, museums and exceptional athletic facilities ensure a vibrant cultural and sporting community. Grand Forks hosts many fun activities year-round.
