We are currently searching for a Electrical Engineering Manager to join our R & D Team. This role will be performed both on site and remotely as necessary, but will be based in the Greater Minneapolis Twin Cities area and our Chaska, Minnesota headquarters.


The Electrical Engineering Manager is the functional manager of the electrical engineering team. They are responsible for the recruiting, performance management, work assignment and career development of the electrical engineering staff. They define the methods and tools used by the EE team. The position holder may manage non-electrical R&D staff members, as assigned to them. The position holder is a member of the R&D Leadership team, and may be tasked from time to time to participate in or lead projects and initiatives that go beyond their functional boundary. As a member of the IMRIS cross-departmental Management Leadership Team, the position holder is responsible for contributing to the development and review of project proposals and project plans including estimating electrical engineering efforts and costs for proposed or planned work.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assign EE staff to projects, based on resourcing prioritizations defined by IMRIS
  • Instruct and coach EE staff on engineering technical output, engineering policies and procedures including best practices
  • Estimate costs and time requirements for various designs and design activities
  • Prepare scope, workload and technical solution recommendations for the design and development of IMRIS products, including changes to existing products.
  • Select, implement and maintain EE development tools and their integration into IMRIS procedures
  • Recruit electrical engineering staff, both direct and contract
  • Perform performance reviews, pay adjustment assessments and promotion recommendations for members of their staff
  • Manage Performance Improvement Plans and terminations
  • May include the role of Project or Technical Leader, leading a multidisciplinary team and influencing design direction outside the electrical engineering team
  • May include the role of a subject matter expert on one or more of IMRIS' product lines


SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

  • The Electrical Engineering Manager reports to the SVP of R&D
  • Is the functional manager for all direct and contract Electrical Engineers in R&D


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • S. degree in electrical engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years industry experience as a developer of medical devices, mixed-signal PCB assemblies, and embedded microcontroller/ microprocessor systems
  • Technical leader experience of cross functional product design leading 2-5 people
  • 2+ years of functional leadership experience
  • Understands full electrical engineering functional responsibilities and is able to supply guidance to direct reports on their jobs, roles and deliverables
  • Robust working knowledge of electrical engineering EDA/CAE/ECAD software for design, model/simulate, build, test, and source file control
  • Is proficient with development practices appropriate to electrical systems to meet regulatory requirements


Abilities

  • Able to coach and lead technical staff
  • Able to communicate effectively within R&D and cross-departmentally throughout IMRIS, including the ability to present R&D work, concepts and issues to senior leadership
  • Able to coach and lead the electrical team to comply with FDA QSR and ISO 13485 regulations on design controls
  • Able to lead root cause analysis on product deficiency issues
  • Driven by a sense of mission and clearly articulates goals to achieve specific results. Takes the initiative to complete important tasks.

  • Project leadership experience
  • Lead designer on one or more system with 510(k) clearance
