MENTAL HEALTH BEHAVIORAL AIDE JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Mental Health Behavioral Aide

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Behavior Response Coordinator

POSITION STATUS: Non-exempt

CORE HOURS: Monday Friday, 7:30 am 4:00 pm

POSITION PURPOSE: To assist, support, and work closely with the Lynx Program Lead, case managers, mental health professionals, administrators, and other team members in providing therapeutic and educational services for students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Collaborate with the Lynx Program Lead, Behavior Response Coordinator, case managers, mental health professionals, and support services to ensure student needs are being met.
Assist in the planning and implementation of the students daily programs under the direction of the Behavior Response Coordinator, Lynx Program Lead, case manager, mental health professional, and/or support service personnel.
Assist in planning and preparing the learning and therapeutic environments and assist in preparation of needed materials and supplies for students.
Provide cues or prompts in skill-building peer-to-peer or staff-student interactions so that the student progressively recognizes and responds to the cues independently.
Generalize skill-building activities in the student's multiple natural settings.
Support students regulation needs, including: sensory regulation, emotion regulation, and executive functioning.
Intervene as necessary to redirect the student's target behavior and to de-escalate behavior that puts the student or other person at risk of injury.
Observe, record, and collect data on behavior and specific IEP goals and level system scorecards.
Participate in staff meetings, training programs and/or conferences designed to promote professional development.
Maintain positive, professional relationships and use appropriate verbal, non-verbal and written communication with all individuals.
Assist students in areas of daily living; such as toileting and/or feeding.
Supervise activities to ensure safety.
Regular, prompt attendance at the Lynx onsite location.
Take initiative to support and demonstrate flexibility to support all areas of need within the Lynx program

OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead small groups in educational or therapeutic activities under the supervision of the case manager, mental health professional, and/or support service personnel.
Perform as a practice partner or role-play partner.
Reinforce the students' accomplishments.
Other job-related duties as assigned.

This position is active and requires standing, walking, running, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching during the day. This position may require the individual to engage in nonviolent crisis intervention techniques including control procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with children or adults with autism, high mental health and/or behavior needs, or other related experience
Ability to operate a computer and the software necessary to complete the required job tasks
High school degree or equivalent

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
2 years of experience working with adolescents with mental health concerns
2 year degree or a minimum of 60 college credits OR successful completion of the ParaPro exam
Knowledge and experience working with students on the autism spectrum
One year previous experience in a middle school or high school setting
Pre-service training:
15 hours of face-to-face training in mental health services delivery
Experience in applied behavior analysis
8 hours of parent teaming training
Remaining 7 hours may include one-to-one time with a mental health professional/practitioner
