Position Information

The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND has an opening for a Research Specialist / Lab Manager to conduct applied and molecular research on diseases soybean under the direction of Dr. Wade Webster. The individual will 1) Lead and/or assist PI with ongoing research projects in soybeans; 2) Design and execute lab, greenhouse and field experiments, analyze data, write reports, present in scientific conferences, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; 3) Coordinate projects with other faculty, staff and students at NDSU and other institutions; 4) Maintain inventory of organism isolates in long-term storage, lab, greenhouse and field supplies, seeds, and other resources in the program. Funding for the Research Specialist position includes appropriated money to the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. This position is considered full-time but is subjected to the policies of North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station and availability of funds. Minimum Qualifications:
  • M.S. in plant pathology, biotechnology, breeding, agronomy, or closely related field
  • Demonstrated research experience
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience with diseases of agronomic crops
  • A driving license or will be required to have it within a month or two of joining the lab
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in plant pathology, biotechnology, breeding, agronomy, or closely related field
  • Experience with diseases of soybean grown in North Dakota
  • Experience working with agrochemical companies and farmer groups
  • Expertise in molecular biology and classic plant pathology techniques

Salary: Commensurate with experience
