Overview

Starting Pay: $20.61 to $25.75 DOE

Full time, benefited position working 80 hours every two week pay period. Days of work are Monday through Friday with hours of 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Weekend work as needed.

This position will support all functions of the Volunteer Services department to improve customer or supporter experiences at JRMC. This includes ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational policies and procedures, as well as recruitment, retention, placement, training, scheduling, evaluation and recognition of volunteers.

Responsible for assigned patient areas and programs, including development of new opportunities. Functions as the liaison to leadership and other constituents including JRMC Auxiliary and Foundation.

This position requires a background check.

Responsibilities

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Organizes the volunteer interview and onboarding process identifying qualified volunteers and ensuring the best use of their talents while addressing the needs of the hospital, patients, families, and staff.
  • Proficient in all volunteer roles to provide general hospital support and when appropriate, specific training for volunteers.
  • Provides support to the volunteers during their assigned shifts by helping to secure coverage for absent volunteers ; including staffing surgical services volunteer desk if needed.
  • Maintains volunteer database for tracking hours served and calendars for their service area with sign-up capability; ensures completion and organization of required federal, state and other health care regulatory requirements and reporting.
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of volunteers.
  • Develops and delivers regular service excellence training opportunities for volunteer and admissions staff.
  • Maintains or improves policy, procedure and manuals/handbooks for activities performed in the volunteer services area and other patient experience programs.
  • Develops and maintains department budget.
  • Conducts rounding with volunteers to discuss the needs of the customers, the department or program and the volunteers themselves (AIDET, HEAT, phone etiquette, escorting patients, etc.).
  • Counsels individual volunteers as needed and/or assists department manager/supervisors with counseling of the volunteer and staff in the event of problems or concerns.
  • Writes and produces newsletter (electronic) specific to volunteer communication.
  • Manages volunteer recognition program.
  • Collaborates with partners and outside organizations including but not limited to Jamestown Cancer Support Group, public and private K-12 schools, health vocational programs, Scout groups, service organizations, and corporate partners.

Foundation:
  • Provides support for special events by promoting the event and arranging volunteers' schedules.
  • Responsible for welcoming, orienting and supervising volunteers during special events.
  • Performs gift acceptance when Foundation is not available, including distributing and storing in-kind donations.

Auxiliary:
  • Helps prepare for monthly general membership meetings, facilitates JRMC speakers and updates and attends quarterly board meetings.
  • Communicates JRMC policies, needs and procedures; ensures activities and behavior consistent with JRMC policies and offers support and assistance to Auxiliary.
  • Works with JRMC Foundation and Marketing to facilitate event and collateral support.

In Addition to Major Tasks and Duties:
  • Maintains JRMC marketing and brand standards.
  • Provides JRMC facility tours.
  • Cross-trained to facilitate HEAT program.
  • Oversight of volunteer services promotion and collateral.
  • Participates in JRMC/department meetings and volunteers for/participates in committees and or events.
  • Participates in the North Dakota Health Care Directors of Volunteer Services (NDHCDVS) organization.
  • Has frequent contact with others (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics); primarily with adults and people with special needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications

BS Degree in a human services related field such as social work, counseling, education, psychology or equivalent experience.

In lieu of a BS Degree consideration will be given for two or more years in a related field.
