Job Role: Construction Manager

Job Location: Eau Claire, WI

Job Description & Skill Requirement:

The following are intended to be examples of the responsibilities for the person in this role. This position description is not intended to be complete or all-inclusive and does not preclude management from assigning other or related functions if such functions are a logical assignment for the position

  • Serve as the liaison between contractors, Client project team, design engineering firms and statutory bodies.
  • Supervise construction activities inside existing Client factory to build / demolish / modify inside existing Client factory (production area, utilities, equipment installation and exterior improvements).
  • Conduct design and construction progress review meetings with consultants and contractors to coordinate appropriate design inputs and drawings are shared between all the three parties. Track and report actions from the meetings.
  • Arrange worksite and equipment access/shutdowns, obtain permits, and develop project support schedules to support contractor/subcontractor activities and minimize interference with others work.
  • Work with project manager(s), architects, structural engineers, site administrators and/or other staff to coordinate construction schedules and manage work activities in order to achieve minimal negative impact upon the shop floor
  • Conduct pre-bid conferences and site visits
  • Troubleshoot new and existing system problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation. Evaluate and select suppliers/vendors; periodically conduct vendor and Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate designs.
  • Work with the manufacturing department to ensure that the designs are optimized for manufacturability.
  • Support VAT/FAT
  • Strong work ethic and initiative; can plan and execute work with minimal direction. Works well with peers and 'customers'; collaborative and responsive.
  • Represent the company in the development, review, and execution of engineering information for construction.
  • Obtain the concurrence of the plant customers. Ensure plant change management systems are followed.
  • Represent the company in the contracting and monitoring of construction activities.
  • Communicate plant requirements and monitor all contractors ensuring plant procedures are followed.
  • Coordinate and schedule construction activities and coordinate with plant operations.
  • Develop resolutions to complex technical problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Develop construction schedules, evaluates construction estimates, reviews contract modifications, and verifies work performed to recommend progress payments.
  • Manages procedural aspects of the construction contract including changes, payments, submittals, and documentation.
  • Tracks project data and reports on potential budget, scope and schedule variances
  • Reviews project plans and specifications for constructability, operability, maintainability & cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure safety compliance by the contractors and subcontractors by adhering to the Client Permit to Work system.

Skill Key Word:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is required. An advanced degree is helpful. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years related construction project management experience is strongly desired out of which minimum of two (2) years in Food & Beverage manufacturing setup.
  • Demonstrated success working on medium to large industrial / manufacturing / factory projects with a construction value in excess of $15M.
  • Strong working knowledge to manage construction in Wisconsin state.
  • Strong working knowledge of food safety considerations while working adjacent to food production lines.
  • OSHA and Construction Safety.
  • Must be able to accurately review, understand and evaluate drawings and specifications, as well as troubleshoot potential problems.
  • Consistently perform construction estimating and evaluate construction methods and schedules. An extensive background successfully utilizing multiple delivery methods is desired.
  • Must possess proficient oral and written communication and presentation skills and be able to communicate effectively with wide variety of people with diverse background of all levels and disciplines.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain positive, cooperative, team-oriented relationships with co-workers, supervisors, managers, clients and others in contact with the job.
  • Able to efficiently and effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office, MS Outlook, MS Project, MS Teams
  • Requires knowledge of current national and local building codes and regulations.
