The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for developing mortgage loan business. Responsible for interviewing and evaluating applicants for loans and processing various loan applications. Gather background information and analyze loan applicants' credit history. Work closely with VP of Mortgage and Business Lending to approve or deny mortgage loans based on mortgage loan policy. Operate with moderate credit authority.

What you would do:

Lending

Gather background information on loan applicants by interviewing loan applicants and obtaining credit bureau reports. Verify employment of persons applying for loans. Handle loan of highest complexity, value, or risk.
Assist members with the loan application process to ensure completeness of information.
Answer questions for members throughout the process. Explain the loan process to include loan options, insurance required on credit union loan products, loan policies, interest rates, payoffs etc.
Pull credit reports for all accounts, verify debts, estimate monthly payments for any outstanding debts not listed and add them to the debts on application.
Calculate debt to income ratio on loan applicants and calculate how much of a loan applicant's debt is secured or unsecured.
Complete applications over the phone and/or electronically.
Determine collateral needs and payment plans for member applying for loan. Determine eligibility of loan co-maker from co-maker's statement and credit rating.
Approve or deny applications. When a loan is denied, explain reasons for denial in a professional, courteous manner. Work with member to provide recommendations or alternative options for other possible ways to secure a loan in the future.
Verify the accuracy of loan amounts and repayment terms on approved loan application.
Complete loan documents and disburse loans when approved.
Handle and pay third parties for duties, such as appraisers, title companies, surveyors, etc.
Cross-sell lending and other credit union products.
Complete denial forms for all loans that are declined.
File and maintain loan records on the computer. Ensure accuracy and completeness of work
Support the vision of the Board of Directors and President/CEO by working cooperatively and cohesively with all fellow employees

Production

Develop mortgage loan business through member seminars and calls to realtors, contractors and other institutions.
Develop programs and relationships with mortgage brokers, realtors, builders and others for loan production
Originate 1st and 2nd mortgage loans and develop plans for marketing.
Maintain membership in at least one professional organization such as Home Builders Association, Mortgage brokers association or South Dakota Mortgage Bankers

Salary:

$19-30 per hour, depending on experience
base pay PLUS monthly incentive bonus pay (no limit)
