Job Details

This position exists to perform skilled utilities installations; the extension, replacement, alteration, maintenance, and repair of existing electrical, HVAC and security systems; maintaining and repairing buildings and equipment; and performing building and grounds maintenance.

Examples of work:

(A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.)

  • To install, test, repair, replace and maintain electrical systems, fixtures, and equipment so that all systems operate safely and efficiently.
  • To maintain, operate and repair heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems to ensure the safety and comfort of occupants and the efficiency of the systems.
  • To install, test, repair, replace, maintain and operate the security system so that building and site security is maintained.
  • To perform routine maintenance and repair to buildings and equipment to ensure the safety of occupants and extend the usefulness of the facilities.  Tasks include:
    • Make minor repairs and adjustments to plumbing, steam and water lines, furniture, shelves, doors and windows.
    • Replace or repair locks.
    • Build or repair plaster walls, concrete surfaces and brick surfaces.
    • Perform custodial duties.
    • Painting exterior and interior building surfaces.
    • Perform structural repairs to buildings.
    • Perform plumbing repairs and installations that do not require a licensed plumber to perform.
  • Remove snow and ice from and maintain sidewalks, parking areas, yards and grounds so that a safe, professional, neat appearance is maintained.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current license as a Class A Journey Electrician.
  • Knowledge and skills in the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades staff in the completion of assigned projects.
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor trades plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings.
  • Skills in using hand and power tools and other trades equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner. 
  • Valid Class D driver's license. Applicants must be able to obtain their Class B CDL with no air brake restriction within 6 months of hire.
