The following Elementary schools have this position available:

Ben Franklin, Discovery, Kelly, Lake Agassiz, Twining, Viking & Wilder.

1. This position is responsible for teaching K-5 social studies in a specialist position.
This position will teach social studies in 2, 30 minute blocks or 1, 1 hour block for
each classroom weekly within the school building.
2. Meets assigned students at the times designated by the immediate supervisor.
3. Develops and maintains a classroom environment that reflects the teacher's
unique talents and skills and, at the same time, meets the district's curriculum
objectives within the limits of available resources.
4. Prepares for assigned classes and provides required documentation,
preparation, and implementation on request of the immediate supervisor.
5. Assists the administration in implementing policies and/or rules governing
student conduct, develops reasonable rules for behavior, and maintains order in
a fair and just manner.
6. Provides an effective program of instruction based on the needs and capabilities
of the individuals or student groups involved. This should include, but are not
limited to: a) Review of previously taught material, as needed; b) Presentation of
new material; c) Use of a variety of teaching materials and techniques; d)
Evaluation of student progress on a regular basis.
7. Correlates individual instructional objectives with the philosophy, goals, and
objectives stated for the district.
8. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides
progress reports as required.
9. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment,
materials, and facilities.
10. Maintains records as required by law, district policy, and administrative
regulations.

11. Seeks assistance for students with special needs.
12. Attends and participates in faculty, department, and district meetings.
13. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for paraprofessional(s), student
teacher(s), and/or volunteer(s).
14. Is accessible to students and parents for education related purposes outside the
inschool workday, under reasonable terms.
15. Cooperates with other members of the staff and/or district personnel in planning
instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
16. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
17. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their
parents concerning academic and behavioral progress.
18. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other staff members.
19. Provides for professional growth through a continuous program of evaluation,
reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at
institutions of higher learning, complying with the Grand Forks Schools'
professional growth program.
20. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication.
21. Utilizes and integrates technology in an efficient and effective manner to
enhance the instructional program.
22. Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see
in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally
and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree
necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity,
allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.

Terms of Employment: 188 days contract

Evaluation: By the Principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service
(December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
