The Controller is LSS' chief accountant providing primary oversight to the accounting operations of the organization. In this role, the Controller is responsible for maintenance, design, and coordination of all accounting systems and organizational structure. The Controller is relied upon by the CFO, President, and other Senior Leaders as the subject matter expert in all accounting matters. In addition to advice and expertise, the Controller is responsible for safeguarding LSS's assets and the integrity of its financial reporting through the design, implementation, and enforcement of appropriate internal control policies and procedures.

Provides overall leadership of the financial audit process and provides the final draft of financial statements, footnotes, and disclosures. Oversees the preparation and filing of form 990 and negotiates the indirect cost rate on behalf of LSS and its affiliated organizations.
Provides oversight of all accounting functions: general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, etc.
Provides overall supervision and leadership of the accounting department that ensures timely and accurate preparation of financial information. The high-level objectives of the department include:
Accurate and timely financial statements consistent with generally accepted accounting standards.
Delivery of timely information and response to requests of stakeholders, both internal and external.
Provides a Service Focus with all stakeholders both internal and external while maintaining compliance with GAAP, internal controls and other applicable standards.
Timely application of cash and payment of obligations to stakeholders, including AP and Payroll
Manages a $1.6 million accounting department budget to keep central service costs low.
Recruitment and retention of motivated competent staff.
Protection of the integrity of LSS by implementing appropriate internal controls and high ethical standards with regards to protection of LSS assets, and the preparation and dissemination of financial information.

Position Requirements:

Four-year BA or BS degree in Accounting, or related field required.

10+ years progressive accounting experience including 5+ years supervisory/leadership experience required.

Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP is required; CPA strongly preferred.

Strong technology skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel required.

Must possess strong leadership and communication skills (listening, speaking, and writing) to include the ability to give work direction, lead and promote teamwork throughout the organization.

Analytical, investigative, and organizational skills.

Must be well organized and detail oriented to complete work correctly and in a timely manner.

Interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, firmness, the ability to provide constructive criticism, and to teach others are essential.

Excellent attention to detail and strong collaboration skills
