Description & Details:

The Department of Animal Sciences seeks a postdoctoral fellow for a 12 to 24-month term under the supervision of Dr. Joel Caton. This position is part of multiple collaborative projects in the areas of nutrition, reproduction, and developmental outcomes to investigate the effects of pre- and perinatal maternal nutrition on fetal developmental programing in beef cattle. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): project management, sample collection, laboratory analyses, sequencing library preparation (e.g. RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, metabolome, and/or RRBS), bioinformatic analysis of sequencing data, and manuscript preparation and publication. Opportunities to collaborate on competitive grants and teaching activities also exist. Previous experience with bioinformatic analysis is a strong asset but not a requirement.

Work Schedule:

12-month term (1.0 FTE)

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in animal science, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field
  • Experience with management of research projects, data collection, and laboratory analysis
  • Experience with laboratory analytical approaches including, but not limited to, nutritional, physiological, molecular, genetic, and/or epigenetic analytical techniques
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and in teams

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience with bioinformatic analyses
  • Previous experience working with livestock handling and sample collection
  • Demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals
