Summary
The Buyer is responsible for issuing and tracking purchase orders, ensuring that required material is available to the production floor prior to start date based on dates being driven by the production schedule, assuring purchased material stays in line with inventory and customer objectives, and making sure supplier report card measurements meet acceptable goals established by supplier.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
Oversees and maintains current purchased inventory.
Oversee and manage the Kanban program.
Researches, analyzes, and forecasts current and future buying trends, markets, and products in order to optimize our purchased inventory needs.
Develops and maintains relationships with wholesalers, distributors, OEM manufacturers, and MRO suppliers.
With guidance from Management, participates in negotiations with Vulcan suppliers.
Based on components and customer requirements, look to drive alternate supplier availability in order to leverage suppliers.
Assesses financial risks of purchases and advises management of plans to mitigate risks.
Attends trade shows, product exhibitions, and conferences when needed to maintain current understanding of new products and trends.
Performs expedites, deferrals, and cancellations in order to manage inbound flow purchased material, meet customer requirements, and control current inventory costs for purchased material.
Monitor and correct capacity and routing information for Purchasing and outside processing. This will help drive accuracy for lead-time and scheduling.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
At least two years of purchasing experience required.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, or related field preferred.
1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Certified Supply Chain Professional or APICS certification desired but not required.
Skills
Proficient using Microsoft office suites (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Power-Point, etc.)
Experience with purchasing, expediting, MRP/ ERP systems, quality/continuous improvement initiatives and production schedules and reporting
Computer data entry
