Job Description

Maximizes the profitability of the mill by improving uptime by measuring and controlling the mill’s process and equipment. This will be accomplished by maintaining, gathering information from, troubleshooting and improving the mill’s processes, machinery, and personnel. This position will be responsible for PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, process network, and ancillary production equipment.

 

The salary range for this position is $80,117 - $133,528.

 

This position is bonus eligible, with a target value of 10% of salary.

 

Modify Control Systems and Software:

  • Improve productivity and reliability of production equipment.
  • Work with PLCs – modify, write, troubleshoot ladder logic, upgrade hardware and software.
  • Work with VFDs – troubleshoot, configure, and upgrade.
  • Make PLC and VFD program modifications to improve efficiency.
  • Assist with optimization configuration and interfaces.

Project/Research and Design:

  • Responsible for design, installation and maintenance of all PLC and automation systems. Install interface computers for PLC and HMI systems.
  • Design modifications to the mill controls as needed.
  • Act as project manager for controls projects.

Assist Mill Personnel and Training:

  • Promote safety throughout the mill.
  • Interact with maintenance, production, and management employees to solve problems.
  • Gather, correlate and analyze data. Write reports from any software compiling data for mill personnel to make business decisions.
  • Assist in implementation of Predictive Maintenance, and Downtime Tracking, Data Collection, and monitoring of critical machines to improve machine efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Assist during critical breakdowns, maintenance days, and project installations.
  • Train mill personnel as needed on operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining new and existing equipment.

Maintain Hardware and Software:

  • Learn, improve, program and troubleshoot control systems to improve uptime and efficiency of mill processes.

Requirements

  • Associates degree preferred in Industrial Electronics and/or Automation.
  • 1-3 years of previous experience required in Industrial Electronics/Automation.
  • Advanced skills with Rockwell VFDs, PLCs, HMIs.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Excel, Word, AutoCAD.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer LAN and WAN networks.
  • Ability to install and troubleshoot industrial control circuits and associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of 24VDC, 120VAC, and 480VAC power circuits.
  • Ability to understand and set priorities and handle multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to clearly present information in an understandable format to many levels of expertise to visualize a uniform goal.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.

Working Conditions & Essential Physical Functions:

  • Office and industrial environment.
  • Temperature extremes, dust, noise, cold, heat, ice, and snow.
  • Occasional work with hazardous materials.
  • Personal protective equipment required.
  • Use of stationary ladders and use of catwalks and working above ground on equipment and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Mental/physical fatigue from computer use.
