JOB DESCRIPTION
Education: Bachelors' degree in Deaf Education. North Dakota Licensure in the area of Deaf Education or ability to obtain licensure.
Job Goal: This is an itinerant special education position for a teacher of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired. This teacher will serve preschool students through the age of 21 years old. This position requires good organization and time managements skills. Good oral and written communication skills are critical.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Establish and maintain trusting, collaborative, professional relationships with all students. The ability to work with a variety of colleagues while serving on a number of teams is extremely important. Skilled in collaboration skills in terms of writing IEP's and other special education documents. Complete evaluations and determine needs of students with hearing impairments or deafness. Knowledge of cochlear implants and how to serve students with these implants is preferred. Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and a child centered attitude and approach. Willingness to travel and the ability to drive between schools to serve students. Basic Sign Language skills General strategist may be considered for this position
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others. Ability to manage emotions and provide emotional support during stressful circumstances.
Terms of Employment: Non-continuing contract for the remainder 2022-2023 school year.
Evaluation: By the Supervisor at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
