Student Safety Liasion Independent Tier 3 9.5 Months Location: Oltman Middle School POSITION SUMMARY: The Student Safety Liaison serves as a support to overall student safety and success. The focus is on engaging, supporting and empowering students, in order to increase and improve school safety, resolve concerns with students and increase protective factors for students. Under the direction of the Building administration, the Safety Specialist will oversee and monitor the safety and well-being of property, students, faculty and staff in the school building. This person will enforce individual school rules, policies, regulations and procedures and assist in the maintenance of an orderly, safe environment through timely access and availability. The Student Safety Liaison will engage with and support students and staff at each high school, in order to increase and improve relationships and safety school wide. PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: Promotes a safe and orderly entrance and exit of all students and staff into the high school assigned. Provides information and assistance to students, staff and the general public in the building. Work cooperatively with school staff to maintain an active presence out in the school building during passing or common area times, serving as a deterrent to misbehavior, and being available to assist with student concerns. At the end of a passing time, it is expected that the building safety specialist will make a complete walk-through of the building to urge students on to their class. Coordinate & supervise hall monitors, scheduling, etc. Complete daily safety inspections of the building and grounds, parking lots to ensure the safety of the building. Check parking permits, etc. follow-up with parking infractions Refer concerns related to student behavior or discipline to the Building Principal or assistant principal for further investigation. Assist with aspects of investigations including but not limited to reviewing and copying video recordings, providing a written account of known activities, and sharing information with the administrator conducting the investigation. Provide support to any area of the building, when requested. Including but not limited to, responding to a crisis situation or escorting a student in the hallway. Assist in the supervision of extracurricular events, when requested. Supports district goals and promotes an environment that is respectful for all. Works collaboratively with other staff to focus on the needs of students, staff and families. Maintains a customer focus that conveys a welcome attitude, an adaptability to change, and a desire for continuous improvement. Is responsible for the safety and well-being of themselves and others by maintaining a safe work environment and encouraging others to follow district safety policies and procedures. Represent the district in community organizations and functions. Keep the district informed of community concerns. Other duties as assigned. JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES): Required: Two years post-secondary education is preferred. Proven ability to work in collaboration with schools and community resources. Proven ability to work respectfully and responsively with diverse populations of youth and families, community members, health and human service providers, city and county government and educators. Experience working with adolescent-age students is preferred. Must have the ability to learn and interpret school policies and procedures, and the ability to communicate tactfully and effectively. Excellent oral and written communications skills, including cross cultural communication. Strong interpersonal skills. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance. Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions
