About the Job

The University of Minnesota Morris seeks an experienced educator to provide programmatic administrative support (e.g., data collection, assessment, records, academic advising, grant administration/writing, etc.) and instruction and field supervision in teacher education courses/programs. Administrative support duties will depend upon the candidate's experience and expertise. Likewise, instructional duties will depend on the successful candidate's experience and level of state-defined qualification for specific courses. The Division especially seeks expertise in elementary subject methods (science methods, math methods, social studies methods), preprimary education, special education and inclusion, secondary content area reading/literacy, and/or racial and cultural diversity education. Participation in campus governance and campus-wide general education courses is expected.

Job duties (proportions may vary, according to other academic staffing)
Instruction and Field Supervision (up to 12 credits) 50%

  • Instructional duties will be assigned based on the experience of the employee and the state-mandated qualifications for various courses. Options include prerequisite courses, elementary and/or secondary inclusion courses, secondary content reading courses, elementary subject methods courses, pre primary education, general education courses, etc.
  • Supervise field experience and student teachers, as appropriate to qualifications and workload
  • Provide supplemental academic advising to teacher education students
  • Participate in discipline and division meetings and activities required for all instructional staff and faculty
  • Stay abreast of new procedures related to MN teacher licensure and UMM policies
Academic Program Support 50%

  • Provide support and cross-training related to clinical experiences
  • Learn Watermark software systems
  • Assist Clinical Experiences Coordinator with tracking requirements and backfilling other systems as needed
  • Support Accreditation Coordinator and Division Chair in assessment activities, as assigned (e.g., data reports, campus and state program review data, etc.)
  • Collaborate with Division Chair and appropriate others in researching, writing, and providing data for grants that support teacher preparation programs and candidates
  • Monitor and contribute to digital communications and social media platforms such as Facebook, Division web sites, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.
  • edTPA support as appropriate (edTPA seminars, remediation, feedback/coaching, etc.)
  • Support Chair and office staff in facilities processes related to Stewart Hall and Blakely Hall teaching space

Qualifications

Essential knowledge, skills and abilities

  • M.A./M.S./M.Ed. and current or past teaching licensure with 3 or more years of teaching experience
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others as a partner, work independently and be a "self-starter" and to take direction from others when needed.
  • Understanding of data, assessment, and sound evaluation procedures.
  • Experience with basic technology tools (shared documents and drives, spreadsheets, learning management systems, etc.).
  • Ability to learn new systems, procedures, and tools (e.g., new software, work flow processes, etc.)

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities

  • 5 or more years of teaching experience
  • Additional professional preparation (doctoral coursework, advanced professional development in a subject area, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to work on varied and multiple projects simultaneously
  • Interest, education, or experience working with teacher preparation programs
  • Experience with writing grants
  • Experience as a cooperating teacher or other field supervision experience
  • Experience with social media, graphic design (Canva and other tools), or other broad communication and marketing experiences
Physical and/or environmental requirements

  • Office environment including standing and sitting at desk, regular use of personal computer.
  • Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 10% walking, and 20% standing
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Occasional lifting, generally less than 50 pounds.
  • This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
