JOB SUMMARY

The Project Engineer reports into the POET Design & Construction (PDC) division. PDC supports the mission by providing high quality, timely and cost-conscious engineering, procurement and construction services. We provide this support through value-added design and technology innovation from a knowledgeable, hard-working staff. We work closely as a multi-disciplinary team in a dynamic, fast-paced, ever-changing environment delivering the best product in the industry.

The Project Engineer assists in the development and management of multiple capital construction and engineering projects under the direction of a Project Manager or the Director of Projects & Development. The Project Engineer assists in the development and execution of the scope of work, budget and schedule of the assigned projects including successful commissioning and turnover to Owner.

DURING A TYPICAL DAY

  • Maintain a safe work record within the group and on project sites. Promote Safety Management culture on all project sites.
  • Execute the POET Design and Construction Capital Project Delivery Process on all projects assigned.
  • Routinely lead project coordination meetings, construction progress updates, and other multifaceted personnel interfaces.
  • Organize and manage multiple objectives for different projects to achieve contractual obligations and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Review detailed construction budgets and provide feedback to the Project Manager on actual and projected expenditures. Control expenses to maximize profitability while delivering a superior project.
  • Assist and provide direct feedback to meet or beat contractual completion dates and other contractual obligations.
  • Review Engineering recommendations regarding purchase order, contract (including Change Orders), and vendor negotiations. Assist and provide direct feedback to the Project Manager in capturing increased profitability wherever possible without damaging customer or subcontractor relations, quality construction and schedule obligations.
  • Review warranty claims and resultant warranty process with the Project Manager and provide recommendations.
  • Create detailed construction schedules for use by Engineers, Project Superintendents, and sub-contractors. Update the construction schedules to show deviation from baseline information and communicate changes in a timely manner to the Project Manager.
  • Routinely update the Engineering staff on the progress of current and future construction projects through detailed progress reports and staff meetings.
  • Monitor construction activity at the construction sites and check for accuracy according to plans, enforce construction safety, and pursue ways to improve efficiency and sequencing.
  • Routinely field questions and communicate with the Project Superintendents and sub-contractors regarding, but not limited to, the following:
  • Construction sequencing
  • Delivery schedules, replacing lost parts, etc.
  • Payment Invoicing
  • Change Order authorization and field verification
  • Drawing clarifications and corrections
  • Coordinating site laydown and work configuration for trades
  • Community relations with neighbors, county officials, etc.
  • Attend or occasionally lead pre-bid and pre-construction meetings for contracts issued for each project.
  • Occasionally provide detailed project estimates to the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate the project commissioning, including the internal start-up team, sub-contractors, and vendors. Participate in the project commissioning process and personnel through contractual completion.
  • Create and manage project punch lists and work with the Project Superintendents and others to complete these tasks.
  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Bachelor's degree or greater in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business required.
  • Experience requirements:
  • Project Engineer I: 1-5 years of professional capital management preferable in heavy industrial construction. 3 or more years experience strongly preferred.
  • Project Engineer II: 4-10+ years of professional capital project management preferably in heavy industrial construction. 5 or more years' experience strongly preferred.
  • Must possess excellent scheduling and budget management skills. Strong knowledge of MS Project preferred.
  • Strong sense of teamwork and ownership is essential.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.
  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You're capable of learning new programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Up to 70% travel will be part of the norm for this position to visit the bioprocessing facilities, meetings and site visits. At times overnight travel may be required.
  • In this role, you'll be asked to drive a POET vehicle. A motor vehicle record check will be conducted during the preemployment process and yearly thereafter.
  • The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
