JOB PURPOSE:

Support and assist all construction projects and efforts by performing safe excavation of underground and aerial facilities placement.

KEY FUNCTIONS:
  • Install, maintain, and repair all aspects of the regional network (both aerial and underground).
  • Responsible for proper placement of cable and fiber.
  • Perform site excavation including: secure the excavation site, select, change and operate specialized excavation equipment attachments, ensure appropriate trench excavation, and load and unload excavation equipment. Be aware of changes in soil conditions and materials that impact operations.
  • Locate, expose, and visually inspect underground utilities. Report deviations to appropriate personnel.
  • Abide by and be familiar with all applicable laws, regulations and internal policies.
  • Successfully use signal meters, read RF levels, voltage meters, TDR, etc.
  • Read, comprehend, and utilize regional network maps and plans.
  • Support the Construction department with the maintenance, expansion and upgrades to the regional network.
  • Possess up-to-date knowledge of technological developments in the industry.
  • Possess knowledge of Midco's safety program, practice and enforce safety rules and procedures. Wear safety apparel which includes hard hats (where required), safety vests, OSHA approved boots, etc.
  • Complete Midco's First Time Right certification within 90 days of hire. Consistently apply First Time Right principles in all aspects of work.
  • Operate and drive a Company vehicle in accordance with all Midco policies including maintaining a safe driving record. Must be able to successfully operate a vehicle with an attached trailer.
  • Adhere to Midco privacy guidelines to ensure each customer's privacy.
  • Follow and serve as a role model in displaying Midco's Core Values and Leadership Success Drivers.
  • Maintain regular attendance and to arrive to work on time as required by your position.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
  • High school diploma or GED required. Some college or vocational training preferred.
  • Obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to operate tow vehicles and/or equipment weighing over 26,000 lbs.
  • Obtain certification and maintain certification to successfully operate a bucket truck to perform aerial construction and maintenance.
  • Completion of safe excavating course(s) by a qualified OSHA program required.
  • Possess in depth knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) codes, policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of an Installer and/or Service Technician.
  • NCTI, SCTE and/or other broadband certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction, the National Electrical Code, OSHA regulations, state and local regulations and general safety standards preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or carry loads of up to 84 lbs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation and vibration.
  • In-person visits to a customer's home or place of business are normal in the performance of this job. Specific abilities required include accessing a customer's home or place of business by stairs or elevator, operating doors or other entrances, navigating hallways and buildings, etc., and adapting successfully to a constantly changing environment.
  • Employees may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week and other than normal business hours, such as holidays, evenings and weekends as business demands.
  • Must be able to climb poles, ladders, and other structures with proper equipment.
  • Must be able to work from elevated heights and in tight spaces such as attics and crawlspaces.
