As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you may: Develop detailed design and integration of electrical/electronic systems, sub-systems and components Support validation and verification activities at component, sub-system, and system test events Conduct Systems Engineering activities including requirements definition and electrical architecture development Provide engineering support to system production in manufacturing environment Research, plan, design, develop, modify, and evaluate electronic and electrical systems Perform complex calculations and develop complex engineering models and representations Prepare and approve engineering drawings Conduct or lead portions of requirements development, architecture development, interface management, verification, and validation Work with stakeholders to ensure products meet cost, schedule, performance and quality requirements Contribute to internal and external technical reviews Use advanced modeling and analysis tools to develop product specifications, models, simulations, technical data packages, and integration and verification procedures Evaluate vendor capabilities, technologies, services and ability to deliver required products or services Recommend design approaches for new or improved products and processes Provide engineering consultation to other technical groups Conduct and support subsystem and system integration and verification activities, manufacturing and test planning, and failure analysis Analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and/or test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications and product requirements Mentor junior engineers This position is intended to be physically located at our Minneapolis, MN location. Required Education, Experience, & Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field and six years relevant experience or four years relevant experience with master's degree Experience in creating, reading, and comprehending schematics and interconnect drawings Ability to create and manage interface control documents Ability to solve complex technical problems Organizational skills to successfully manage the release of drawings, author engineering orders, and track changes Ability to operate in cross-functional engineering tasks (electrical, mechanical, systems) Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey data, information, and technical results to customers Leadership abilities and interpersonal skills Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills Systems engineering and manufacturing knowledge Low and high voltage (28/650Vdc) power distribution and management (Solid State Power Controller/Programmable Power Controller) Working knowledge of design for environmental qualification including EMI/EMC design and qualification principles for electronic equipment SAEJ1939, CANBus, MIL-STD-1553, 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet Protocols and equipment RF sensor experience - developing, integrating, and testing Experience using lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, CANbus analyzers, data acquisition) for test and verification Experience with engineering design of wiring harnesses and cable assemblies for military uses About BAE Systems Platforms & Services BAE Systems, Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of BAE Systems plc, an international defense, aerospace and security company which delivers a full range of products and services for air, land and naval forces, as well as advanced electronics, security, information technology solutions and customer support services.
