GENERAL SUMMARY
This paid internship as a Mechanical Design Engineer is designed to provide on-the-job experience by connecting academic learning with real-work application. The objective is to provide the employee with experience that creates for them a competitive advantage in the workplace as they approach the completion of their degree.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Duties will be made up of continuation design efforts that include but are not limited to design changes that make the manufacturing and assembly of products more efficient and the improvement of engineering documentation for complex product families.


Work in accordance to specifications, schedule, and budget limitations established by the department and comply with company procedures, documentation, and record keeping practices.

Key Continuation Design efforts will include:

  • Improvement to designs that aid in more efficient manufacturing of products. These projects may include but are not limited to the support of fixture production and cataloguing, assembly instruction development, end of line inspection instruction development, and the focus on time studies and the operational efficiency of machine designs.
  • Engineering documentation consolidation and/or standardization to improve the efficiency of the designs and/or design file work.
Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Preference for strong mechanical aptitude. Candidates with previously work experience in construction, equipment operation, and/or have performed metal fabrication and welding are desired.
  • Maintain the integrity of existing design and production documents, such as bills-of-material, routings, drawings, item master information, and cost information.
  • Apply sound engineering principles and management techniques in the execution of all activities.
  • Computer and internet skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Proficient at 3D modeling, Solidworks CAD experience required.
  • Ability to capture project requirements and communicate project status and results clearly.
  • Ability to document and simplify complex processes.
  • Experience with ECN (Engineering Change Notification) process is desired.
  • Ability to work effectively across an organization as a team player who is willing to take direction, and seek advice.
  • Self-starter, willing to learn as you go, and has the ability to contribute to a team.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Must be an active student at an accredited college or university. Ideally we are seeking students in a Mechanical Engineering degree program, though we will consider students from other, engineering related disciplines. Ideal candidates will be in their junior or senior year. Strong computer skills are a must.
