The Research Associate I will assist in all aspects of lab management and operations. The ideal candidate for this position will have the drive to combine advanced technical skills with science process skills to discover the molecular mechanisms of cell biology. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible position. The SDSU Biology and Microbiology department has a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service. The department has approximately 30 faculty members, 500 undergraduate and 40 graduate students, and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The person in this position will aid research efforts by managing laboratory activities, keeping records, and applying a range of technical skills including mammalian cell culture, gene biotechnologies including CRIPSR/Cas whole gene disruption, fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry to study the molecular pathways governing macropinocytosis in macrophages. In addition to conducting research, the successful candidate will be expected to write scientific manuscripts, assist with grant proposal preparation, train and work with students, manage laboratory inventory, and enforce safety practices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Genetics, or related discipline completed by first day of employment; At least one year of experience using molecular and cell biology laboratory techniques; Laboratory skills including experience with molecular biology, cell culture, and biochemistry; Ability to perform mathematical calculations; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Organizational and time management skills; Computer literacy; and Ability to work as a contributing team member. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience with molecular biology, including construct design, CRISPR gene editing, PCR and related technologies; Experience with fluorescence microscopy, image processing and analysis; Experience with immunoblotting technology, analysis and quantification; Experience working in a biosafety level 2 laboratory; and Experience in publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
