Position Information

NDSU is seeking an experienced leader as the next Director of the Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources (CADR) at NDSU. The mission of the NDSU Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources is to collaborate with the NDSU community to facilitate equal access in academic pursuits, promote self-advocacy, and foster inclusion for students with disabilities.

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, the Director oversees an office of four professional staff who support students with disabilities by processing eligibility and accommodation requests, serve as a resource to the broader campus to answer disability-related questions and oversee the Transition and Access Program which provides a supportive environment for students with intellectual disabilities to attend college courses, earn meaningful credentials and gain employment and independent living skills.

The director oversees all administrative and managerial functions of the office including hiring, training and supervision of staff; delivery of excellent customer service; oversight of local and appropriated budgets; ensures a fair, effective and consistent review of students' requests for accommodations and appropriate appeal process; contribute to policy and procedure development related to accessibility; collaborate with campus and community resources to ensure access; ensure effective and secure storage and management of student data; serve on or lead appropriate campus and community committee.

The Director will provide oversight, vision and advocacy for
  • the use of innovative strategies including assistive technologies and emerging pedagogical techniques to accommodate students with disabilities on campus
  • seamless processes that encourage students with disabilities to seek accommodations
  • increased understanding among campus stakeholders of their responsibility to provide accommodations
  • compliance with federal and state mandates related to equal access for students with disabilities

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8:00-5:00; 7:30-4:00 summer and breaks

Advertised Salary:

Competitive salary commensurate with experience and excellent health and retirement package

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, social work, special education, or other related field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working with persons with disabilities
  • Knowledge of ADA, Section 504
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Supervisory experience of professional staff members
  • Experience with diverse groups and commitment to advancing diversity
  • Innovative problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong customer service
  • Experience developing and managing budgets

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with assistive and educational technologies
  • Professional Experience in higher education
