Overview

Starting Pay: $15.50 to $18.22 DOE

Assists physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and the audiologist in the implementation of various types of treatment, cleaning, and office duties for all rehab department services.

Responsibilities

Patient care:
  • Assist with opening and closing of department daily.
  • Makes sure equipment ready daily for staff to use for patient care.
  • Greets patients and visitors for Rehab services (6 departments).
  • Administers rehab care programs or portions thereof as planned and directed by a Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist or Speech Therapist to patients of all age groups.
  • Provide assistance to staff in PT, OT, and ST for patient care needs.
  • Takes patient blood pressures if requested
  • Assists with PT group therapy for Ortho patients.
  • Support to the therapist when therapist is performing tests, evaluations, procedures and activities.
  • Provides assistance with collecting data during treatment and evaluation sessions.
  • Assists audiologist in cleaning and repairing hearing aids.
  • Completes daily activities for Swingbed as identified in the care plan and when requested by Nursing Unit Supervisor.
  • Communicates with care team regarding patient's progress, needs and discharge planning.
  • May float to Home Health to assist Rehab staff

Cleaning and Maintenance:
  • Maintains a neat and organized appearance in all areas of the department; replaces equipment to assigned place.
  • Daily laundry restocking
  • Stocks supplies in all depts., makes sure supplies available for patient care needs.
  • Responsible for daily, bi-weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance of rehab equipment and logs required for Joint Commission.

Office Duties:
  • Maintains and orders patient and office supplies for all departments of rehab services.
  • Checks charges for PT, OT, & ST. May assist checking Audiology charges
  • Runs daily, pay period and monthly reports.
  • Assists in compiling department stats.
  • Assists in answering phones, patient scheduling, team communication of schedules, and preparing therapist schedules for the next business day.
  • Brings schedules to PCU and patient rooms daily, communicates plans to patients.
  • Assist with daily mail.
  • Assists manager in coordinating weekly/daily schedules for rehab volunteers and assisting volunteers for group PT and other duties.
  • Assists Office Coordinator in performing review of medical records for completion using established standards of practice.
  • Assists Office Coordinator compiling data thru chart review for Quality Assurance Reports, year-end reports, end of month reports and stats.

Acts as Rehab Excellence coordinator:
  • Assists Manager in Patient rounding
  • Sends staff thank you's and leaves following patient rounding
  • Maintains and updates pillar boards and rehab activity board
  • Plans monthly staff activity
  • Assists dept in planning patient activities
  • Rehab BINGO for Ortho pts on PCU
  • Monitors patient birthdays and provides patients certificates
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications

High school level of knowledge preferred in order to follow written and oral instructions, perform simple calculations and to deal effectively with other people. Will complete CPR every other year.

Previous work experience as a Rehab Aide preferred but not required. Time to reach competency on the job is three to six months.
