Job Summary:

Experimental technicians are responsible for all levels of fabrication, assembly, installation, modification, and repair of developmental aircraft-related products and tooling. Technicians will be expected to read and interpret engineering documents (drawings, schematics, and specifications for examples) to accomplish these activities. Familiarity with common fabrication methods in metals and composite materials is expected. Technicians will be required to use hand tools and to operate common powered, shop tools. Problem-solving and communication skills are highly valued as these technicians are a crucial part of new product development. Experimental team members will need to work effectively in groups and with other departments across the organization.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Technicians in Experimental may be assigned to any of the following teams:

Composite Structures - This team focuses on fabrication of aircraft structural components and tooling using composite materials (resin/fiber composites and adhesives). Particular skill-sets employed include: wet-lay fabrication and repair, application of pre-impregnated materials, adhesive bonding, layout and trimming/drilling, structural hardware installation, and bodywork / surface finishing.

Aircraft Assembly - The focus of this team is the assembly and installation of aircraft structures and systems. Particular skill-sets employed include: metal fabrication and assembly, welding, hardware installation, layout and trimming/drilling, mechanical systems troubleshooting, interior finishing, and aircraft maintenance.Avionics and Electrical - This team is responsible for aircraft wiring and electrical systems. Particular skill-sets employed include: wire harness fabrication, construction of electrical system test units, and troubleshooting electrical circuits.

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Formal training in GTAW/GMAW, Machining, A&P, A&E, FCC, or other industry certificates a plus.
