The Diagnostic Radiology Technologist (Registered) demonstrates and understands the scope of responsibility within their license. They confirm and reviews orders, properly identify the patient and appropriately complete processes for image interpretations. The Registered Technologist supports students in their clinical setting.



  • Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission, vision and values of Altru Health System.

  • Performs pain assessment and takes appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.

  • Confirms physician orders and reviews all required clinical information prior to performing exams and applying ionizing radiation.  Communicates information which may alter the exam protocol to the Radiologist and co-workers, i.e., patient history, pertinent symptoms, etc. according to standard operating procedures.

  • Identifies patient according to standard operating procedures and acquires proper signature on consent forms.  Ensures inpatients are properly identified by armband verification and outpatients via verbal name and birth date verification.

  • Demonstrates understanding of Computer Radiology (CR) principles, selects proper technical factors and operates equipment to produce quality radiographs, utilizing all radiation safety devices in accordance with standard operating procedures.

  • Educates the patient on the procedure within scope of responsibility, performs all radiographic procedures according to standard operating procedures and monitors patient for comfort and safety. 

  • Reviews images for quality and completeness according to standard operating procedures and Radiologist’s preference, i.e., proper usage of lead markers, proper labeling, etc.

  • Ensures prior images are in the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), completes all Epic processes, and ensures images are distributed for interpretation to appropriate Radiologist at completion of exam.

  • Prepares and administers IV and oral contrast under the direction of a Radiologist/Radiologist Assistant according to standard operating procedure.

  • Represents Radiology concerns on assigned committees, i.e., Safety, Quality, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

  • Certified by the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board of Examiners.

  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, Radiographer (ARRT-R).

  • Successful completion of the functional assessment.
