The Nursing Assistant, assists with ordering of supplies for unit and stocks the clean utility rooms; monitors and records refrigerator temps; assists providers as a chaperone; collects data from the patient and/or family on the patient’s individual and educational needs; identifies changes in patient’s condition and communicates these changes to the nurse immediately; performs procedures according to physician order and nursing delegation; assists physicians or other professionals with procedures; performs personal cares and comforts; transports and/or transfers patients within or outside of the facility; demonstrates knowledge of location, set-up, use and cleaning of basic equipment; completes all documentation; processes patient charge items and completes order entry and verification; maintains a clean and orderly physical environment; performs fundamental nursing skills, tasks and treatments and collects, documents and relays to the nurse the effectiveness of and response to nursing care, procedures, tasks, treatment and teaching each shift.  Patients cared for include infants, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

 

Primary Job Duties:



  • Assists with ordering of supplies for unit and stocks the clean unity rooms when supplies arrive.


  • Monitors and records refrigerator temperatures twice daily on unit.


  • Assists providers as a chaperone as needed during exams and procedures.


  • Collects data which includes patient’s vital signs, portions of the record, and information from the patient and/or family on the patient’s individual and educational needs and relays the information to the nurse.


  • Identifies changes in patient’s condition and communicates these changes to the nurse immediately.


  • Reports complaints of patient’s pain to the assigned nurse.


  • Performs procedures according to physician order and nursing delegation, based on validation and skill level, i.e., non-blood specimen collection, etc.


  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize and adjust own workload, as designated by the nurse, to meet fluctuation in patient or customer needs.


  • Assists physicians or other professionals with procedures according to standard operating procedure.


  • Performs personal cares and comforts according to standard operating procedure.


  • Transports and/or transfers patients within or outside of the facility per delegation, physician or patient preference, according to standard operating procedure.


  • Demonstrates knowledge of location, set-up, use and cleaning of basic equipment according to standard operating procedure.


  • Completes all documentation according to standard operating procedure as delegated by the nurse, i.e., vital signs.


  • Processes patient charge items and completes order entry and verification according to standard operating procedure.


  • Maintains a clean and orderly physical environment for the patient and staff.  Turns over exam rooms between patients.


  • Assists with involving the patient, family or caregiver into the implementation of the plan of care.


  • Performs fundamental nursing skills, tasks and treatments as delegated by the Nurse according to standard operating procedure.


  • Collects, documents, and relays to the Nurse the effectiveness of and response to nursing care, procedures, tasks, treatment and teaching regularly.


 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

 

Required:

•           High school diploma or the equivalent.

•           Registration by the North Dakota State Department of Health as a Certified Nursing Assistant or

•           Registration by North Dakota State Department of Health as a Nurse Aide or

•           Those who have in the past neverbeen licensed or certified as a Nurse Aide or Certified Nursing Assistant may obtain registration by the North Dakota State Department of Health within the first four (4) months of employment.

•           Successful completion of the functional assessment.

 

Preferred:

•           Previous experience in a health care setting.
