The person who fills the Experimental, Platform Coordinator position will lead a diverse team of manufacturing engineers and Experimental technicians who are responsible for the fabrication and modification of flight and ground test articles being developed in Product Engineering. This position will serve as Experimental Engineering’s primary point of contact on a cross functional team who are responsible for reviewing design, generating cost estimates, establishing timing, solving build issues, and meeting the quality standards that are established for all new products being developed in the Product Engineering group.

This position will report to the Director of Experimental Engineering.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position will have indirect functional and technical responsibility for a mixed team of manufacturing engineers and Experimental technicians.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the develop and rollout of new technologies and processes.
  • Forecast labor, material, and facility requirements.
  • Conduct fabrication make/buy decisions for raw materials, piece parts, and assemblies and coordinate directly with Supply Chain.
  • Department focal for program scheduling, resource leveling, and ensure build plans and deadlines meet program requirements
  • Provide technical guidance to build team on all aspects of airplane fabrication and certification.
  • Responsible for setting and enforcing standards for Solumina work order creation and execution within Product Development department.
  • Provide weekly status updates to cross functional team.
  • Serve as area host for long term vendors located in Experimental Engineering.

Demonstrated Proficiencies / Skills / Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of competing aircraft construction methods and materials, systems layout, and maintenance practices.
  • Efficient at continuous product improvement, problem solving, and design of experiment efforts.
  • Exhibit strong leadership, guidance and decision making skills.
  • Proficiency with PTC Creo and Windchill, Solumina, Microsoft Office Suite, and ERP software.

Educational and Industry Experience:

7-10 years of combined education (Associates or Bachelor’s degree) and industry experience with an emphasis in Aerospace or low volume manufacturing. Experience with program management, composite part fabrication, aircraft fabrication and maintenance, low cost tooling design, lean manufacturing, and CAD software (PTC Creo preferred).
