This position is primarily responsible for managing full-cycle employee recruitment, hiring, onboarding supporting human resources policies, practices and programs that provide an employee-oriented, high performance culture for the assigned market and areas. Under the direction of the Employee Relations Manager, this position will assist and advise employees and managers about Human Resources issues, coordinating efforts to identify, evaluate, improve and implement personnel policies and procedures. This position will participate in various projects and events throughout the company as necessary.


JOB FUNCTION NUMBER 1: Market Recruiter - Coordinate the recruitment and onboarding process with hiring managers, ensuring an efficient and effective process with regard to identified business needs and goals. (45%)
  • Develops and coordinates with local market leadership on specific recruitment strategies to achieve required staffing levels. Coordinates the job requisition and posting process.
  • Actively recruits applicants for open positions as well as positions with steady turnover to build an active pipeline.
  • Corresponds with applicants to inform them of employment possibilities, considerations, and selection.
  • Reviews and screens applicants for positions, recommending qualified internal and external applications to the appropriate hiring manager for interview selection.
  • Coordinates hiring manager interviews, employment-related testing, background and drug screening and completes appropriate follow-up.
  • Coordinates the employee onboarding process to include employment offers, employee set up, orientation program, activities, and training schedule.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with university and community college placement offices as a source to generate qualified applicants; actively promoting Alerus as an employer of choice.
  • Schedules and attends job/career fairs with appropriate staff as a source to generate qualified applicants.

JOB FUNCTION NUMBER 2: Employee Development - Coordinate and assist managers and employees to identify and align performance and learning opportunities with organizational needs. (35%)
  • Promotes and champions the company's mission, vision, and fundamental beliefs by integrating the leadership competencies in all performance and learning plans.
  • Assists in the development and communication of employee performance goals to align with the area's business plan.
  • Works with managers and employees on action plans regarding performance concerns, providing guidance and positive support.
  • Works with managers to maintain up-to-date job descriptions.
  • Identifies employee training needs and support the development of learning plans to prepare employees for growth opportunities and achieve business goals.
  • Coordinates, develop, and instruct classroom and/or online training as needed for HR specific and/or company-wide topics. Coordinates job shadowing opportunities for employees.

JOB FUNCTION NUMBER 3: General HR team responsibilities - Provide HR support in a variety of areas as necessary for market support. (20%)
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of general Human Resources specialty areas, such as benefits, compensation, employment laws and regulations, etc.
  • Assists with assessing market level competitive data in areas such as compensation and benefits to support employee and company needs.
  • Provides backup support to Human Resource team members.
  • Interprets and communicates policy and regulation guidelines and changes.
  • Assists the department in carrying out various Human Resource programs, policies, and procedures for all employees.
  • Supports and communicates company fundamental beliefs, mission, vision and culture.
  • Networks with and builds relationships with other human resource professionals in communities we serve.
  • Participates as a HR project resource as assigned.
  • Assists in coordinating employee functions, such as all employee meetings and recognition events, on and off-site.
  • Coordinates and supports market specific community involvement activities.



  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, related field, or equivalent combination of experience and training that equips individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform all job functions.
  • Three or more years of HR experience required, with preference given to recruiting, staffing, and employee relations experience.
  • Understanding and application of a variety of human resources concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in assessing situations and drawing from experience as well as external resources to solve problems and make effective decisions.
  • Ability to travel within the assigned market on a regular basis, and as needed periodically to other market locations.

  • Extended periods of time sitting at a desk and using office equipment.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately 8 hours per day.
  • Extended time is spent reviewing physical and electronic documents.
  • Requires the routine & safe operation of a motor vehicle to travel between multiple locations to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Periodically, may also do light lifting of supplies and materials which weighs in at approximately 20 lbs.
  • Will spend most of time in an indoor environment.
